The artwork (paintings and sculpture - Titian, Donatello and Canova) is amazing. I recommend downloading Rick Steves' audio guide (free) before going. If you buy a "San Marco Pack" museum/church pass combo ticket, Basilica dei Frari is included. S. Toma stop on the vaporetto. Plan for at least an hour.

One of the most spectacular churches in Venice! Tiziano is burried there. Don't miss a chance to visit. The entrance is not free :(

The Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is one of the greatest churches of Venice. The church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and is known for its many masterpieces of Venetian Renaissance art and monuments to Renaissance sculptors and artists. The exterior is built of brick and is rather plain in keeping with the Franciscan’s life of poverty and austerity. The interior is light and spacious. It contains the only rood screen still in place in Venice. You will find art by Titian, Giovanni Bellini, Bartolomeo Vivarini, Donatello and Antonio Canova to name a few. Titian, who died of the plague in 1576, is buried in the church. Chorus Pass Church.

This beautiful magnificant church can be visited with Chorus pass. It costs 12€ and includes visits to 15 churches. Otherwise it would be 3€ per church. You get very good guide map of included churches. The pass is valid for one year. So if you plan to come back to Venice or you stay long enough to visit more churches it is definetly a good option. I was lucky to be in Venice on the 15th August (Assumption) when the entrance was free and there was a beautiful concert of early sacral music for soloists, choir and organs. Of course, the works of Monteverdi were performed, the composer who is burried in this church. The concert was free of charge too. I suppose that the similar ocassions and events are for each religious holiday.
