Owner description: A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the building and its sculptural decoration date from various periods. The interior, with works by artists such as Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, A.Vittoria and Tiepolo, includes vast council chambers, superbly decorated residential apartments, and austere prison cells. Along the facades of the Palace run loggias that overlook St. Mark’s Square and the lagoon. The combined entrance ticket to the St. Mark’s Square Museums grants access to the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of Biblioteca Marciana.

Absolutely stunning place to go round! Suggested visit was 1 hour 30 mins, we spent 3 hours and 30 mins!
We loved the info boards in each of the rooms, although some are placed in bad places (eg in front of the entrance) which I imagine would cause issues during busy periods. We also had to wait a bit at some points to let tour groups move past.
The only poor bit was the prisons, as there are no information boards and just a few arrows pointing you around. Also there was a *lot* of graffiti in the prison section which was a real shame as there were obviously no guards to stop them.

There seems to always be a queue out front, so worth buying tickets in advance. Although we went to the correr museum the day before and got a multi pass so were able to skip the queue!

“Secret Itineraries tour is a must!!”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Book directly from the Palazzo Ducale website to save yourself a lot of cash. Tour is very interesting and covers prisons and secret passages. Tour lasts 1.5 hours, so budget another 1 hr to see the rest of the massive building! Don't miss crossing the Bridge of Sighs!

“Allow Three Hours!”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

This place exceeded our expectations. The ceilings in some of the State rooms were outstanding, and its worth taking your time to read the information boards in each room. Take a seat, take time to reflect on what you are seeing, and just let the tour groups and people with only an hour to spare speed by. Have a good breakfast beforehand, as the cafe prices are, well, fit for a duke!

We didn't bother with the Secret Itinerary tour and didn't regret it. We'd had all the stairs we needed after 3 hours.

“Really a Must See!”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

The Palazzo Ducale is impressive both from the exterior as well as the interior but to see the hidden and interesting areas, one must take this Secret Itineraries Tour! We booked online for the 11:35 am tour. It lasted until 1 pm after which the guide told us we could either join the regular tour for free or walk around by ourselves. We had no idea before the tour that there would still be so much to see and I had made arrangements for lunch nearby. To go outside for lunch and return later, we would have had to buy new admission tickets. Instead we walked around by ourselves for an additional 30 minutes and went to lunch.
In hindsight, it would have been better to eat a big breakfast and then spend 3-4 hours here.
There's also a small cafe inside the Palazzo where one can get a drink or light snack.
The ticket includes same-day admission to the Museo Correr.
