Owner description: A masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the building and its sculptural decoration date from various periods. The interior, with works by artists such as Titian, Veronese, Tintoretto, A.Vittoria and Tiepolo, includes vast council chambers, superbly decorated residential apartments, and austere prison cells. Along the facades of the Palace run loggias that overlook St. Mark’s Square and the lagoon. The combined entrance ticket to the St. Mark’s Square Museums grants access to the Doge’s Palace, Museo Correr, Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Monumental Rooms of Biblioteca Marciana.

The Palazzo Ducale was definitely the highlight of our visit in Venice. The "secret itinerary" tour added a whole lot of texture to our impressions of the building and overall understanding of Venetian history. Very impressive!

Historic conspicuous consumption is represented here in all it's gilt and glory. A lot to see, really need several visits to absorb.

The palace gives a glimpse into the super power that was Venice in its heyday. You can do a quick self guided tour (we used a Rick Steve's guidebook) or you can linger longer and spend at least two to gain a more in depth understanding. We had three children in tow and so the self guided tour worked well for us. The prisons were really interesting for our children to see.

We booked for the secret Itinerary tour and it was great, our guide was lovely full of personality and a fantastic story teller, she was a pleasure to share time with. When we finished we then went through the main part of the Palace and the general cells and over the bridge of sighs, stopping of course to gaze out the window as it is fabled those being escorted would on their way to the dark dank cells. it was a great visit and the private tour definitely enhanced the visit, oh yeah you get all the Casanova gossip on the secret tour.

I've been to Versailles, Buckingham, Windsor, the Vatican, Blenheim and any number of Duomos and cathedrals, this building to the most breathtaking!
The shear heIght of the rooms, vastness and the art are overwhelming.
