I think it's good but it was being renovated when I visited it. The renovation activities made it look so ugly..

We bought the combined tour of the Basilica and the Doges Palace. The Basilica is fabulous but the queues were horrendous and even with our “jump the queue” ticket it took us a very long time to get in, indeed, we spent more time in the queue outside than in the Basilica itself. Whilst this gave the guide plenty of time to talk about the exterior of the Basilica, its history and also to point out some of the surrounding buildings, it’s major disadvantage was that there was no time to dawdle once we got inside as we needed to meet up with the next tour group for the neighbouring Doges Palace tour. Luckily the same guide was taking both tours but we had no time to explore the Basilica on our own and were not allowed to return later once we’d left it, clearly a rule that needs to be looked at in such circumstances. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed our visit, particularly the story of the recovery of St Mark’s body/remains, the views of the central Cupola of the Ascension, and of the creation, the Pala d’Oro behind the main altar and the many other mosaics both outside and in….breathtaking. This is a must do when in Venice and I would recommend taking a tour but would caution you to consider carefully whether to choose a combined tour or stand alone tour. I would have given it 5/5 except for the queues.

We popped into St Marks on 3 occasions & luckily on the last the lights were on which makes ALL the difference. It is really quite beautiful & you probably need more than one visit to really take it in.

Hard not to love a church/basilica that seems to have been built an inch at a time with attention to every single detail. Mindblowing how anyone could envision let alone build such a thing on an island in a delta. Mind you, the floors reflect the nature of the underlying foundation and undulate like ocean waves.

i love the ancient architecture of this church which is located in Saint Mark. I love original gold covered horses here. After many renovation, Saint Mark brings visitors good impression, it is very different from other churches in Europe. i was so surprise at pictures on Saint Mark's body. It's a pity i had a short time here! I think i will pick this place when i visit Venice this time to discover it deeply.
