I truly believe that the "aww" you feel when stepping into Saint Mark's Basilica is comparable to the first time you hold your new baby. It is a work of God....carried out by my talented Italians, but truly a work of God. I felt as though I was part of History, part of something much Greater on this Earth. Just standing in the middle of St.Mark's was breathtaking. I can't describe it anymore, but the moment you step into it, you will understand my aww.

Also, go back and visit it at night when it is lit up. Your breath will be taken away for a second time!

The Byzantine Influence is so strong, this though doesn't make this monunent less important on the contrary it makes it a must when you visit Venice. There is no entry fee but you have to pay to visit the two art colections that are inside the Basilica. One is dowstairs and one high up about 100 steps in the gynaeconite . Both colections are very interesting with valuable exibits. Be very careful they don't let any bags inside so you could be waiting one hour on a que and when you get there to be turnd away if you have a bag with you.The Basilica was build to house the body of St. Mark the Euangelist that was stolen by the Venetians from Alexandria after the 4th Crusade 1204 AD.
It is a mangificent building with thousands of people going there every day. Be prepared to wait you need one hour to get inside and one hour to see the monument aproximately. Don't forget no bags!!!!!!!
