“Lovely”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Loved the Basilica and it is free to go inside, downside is that the special parts of the basilica are broken up into separate museums and each has a small charge to go in so it is not as FREE as it is made out to be.

“impressive”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

We initially went to St Marks mid morning and were not inclined to join the massive queues. I was looking into skip the queue tours, however we decided to try and visit late in the afternoon as advised by many on TA... again, great advice. We pretty much went straight in, still crowded inside however it was as busy as numerous cathedrals we had visited. It is certainly a beautiful Basilica, which is steeped in history.

“Wonderful on the outside”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

St Mark's Basilica is wonderful to look at and admire on the outside. On the inside it is less artistic, but still worth visiting. What we didn't like is that to leave your bag for storage, you have to walk to a side street to the piazza, then walk back to the Basilica. Why don't they have an area at the Basilica's entrance for that??

“Beautiful basilica”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Liked the historical touches, the horses, the looted pillars, and all the other loot. But was a little dismayed at the mercenary approach to charging for viewing the inner section, and then charging again to view the treasures. It gets tiresome to keep fishing for cash every few minutes once inside and leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

“Classic Architecture”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

This place is one to marvel with the great architecture of the basilica and the square. A bit commercialized with the square being lined with shops selling souvenirs and jewelry but if you are the type who likes shopping, then indulge. It's just that it sort of diminishes the fact that it is a historical sight and you are met with a mall like environment.
