Owner description: The tallest spiral staircase of Venice is a perfect synthesis of different styles (Renaissance, Gothic and Venetian-Byzantine). It was commissioned by Pietro Contarini in late 1400 as a decorative element of the adjacent family's Palazzo. Even today there are several hypotheses about the authorship of the manufacturer. The monument can be considered a unique architectural jewel in the lagoon, the new Renaissance expression that was establishing in the city. The Scala is connected to the palace by three floors lodges. To the top there is the Belvedere with a wonderful view of Venice. From here you can see the domes and the Campanile di San Marco, the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo, and even the Teatro la Fenice.

“Hard to fins but worth it”

I'm suspicious because I love everything in Venice and I never understood people who complains or say things are not worth it. I believe that, depending on the time you're going to spend in Venice you have to adjust priorities in what to see, of course. If you have the time, it's worth to see this architectural building. If you don't have the time, of course spend it looking at the great view from the L'Accademia bridge. :)

“Not worth the effort”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

Tried to find it in the dark and it's a nightmare to find down some little alley well tucked away. When we did find it it's behind fencing so you can't really do much plus in the dark you can't see it very well. Not really worth finding or looking at.

“Worth the search”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

This amazing tower is tucked away from the main tourist area but is worth the search. We had very little trouble finding it. I would recommend writing the name down and asking the locals for directions. It took about 10 minutes to get there from St. marks Square. When we found it there were only a few people there. A tour group showed up and filled the small space in front but like all tour groups they were on a schedule and left quickly allowing us to get our pictures.

“Amazing staircase”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

We saw this in the evening- in the moonlight. Too bad the area has not been renovated ad is not open to the public. The 'Bovolo' ( snail in the Venetian language) s an interesting sigh. Our guide told us the other side- visible only by boat was completely different.

“Historically Beautiful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

We came across this beautiful palace on a walking tour of Venice that we did and we were so glad that the tour guide was able to share it with us because it is tucked away around many corners like a lot of places in Venice. It'll be incredible to climb when they open it as a museum.
