St. Mark's Square was very nice. We did a walking tour of Venice and ended up in the square. In addition to the architecture, amazingly interesting clock (which we saw chime and change) there were places to eat, drink (fountain to fill water bottles), photographic opportunies, stores and vendors. We felt a little like Mary Poppins as we fed the birds. A gelato here was a must.

I know many people would find this too touristy, but my friends & I loved it! Just the buzz of being there, so many people from all over the world. In the evenings, listening to the various orchestras playing at night was just fabulous! And also whenever the clock would strike at the turn of every hour, there were 2 fake men high up in the church, that were simulating the gong of the clock. Also just looking at how everyone was posing and taking pictures of themselves or others was great! Afterwards, sitting by the waterfront and people watching was super...people having an aperitif before going to the opera, or people just walking by...it was really cool!

You can't go to Venice without coming here. There aren't as many pigeons as I remember in the past and apparently you can't feed them but the children still love seeing them and taking pictures with them. St. Mark's, the clock tower and the Campanile are all must sees as well. Just a wonderful place to hang out and take in Venice.

St Marks Square is one of those places which you feel like going back to again and again. It is one of the few places which offers something to everyone. Be it the restaurants with live music or the small eateries around. It is always buzzing with activity and you always feel warmth in the air. This is also cleaner than other locations. Go for it...

There is the most delightful light in the early morning, quiet - no jabbering noisy tourists - just you and the streetsweepers. Night music is fun, but still pretty crowded....daytime is pazzo!
