Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“What a stunning space!”

Obviously nobody is going to overlook St Mark's Square when they are in Venice, but that's for a very good reason. This place is simply stunning! It's a jaw-dropping place that I want to go back to again and again.

“Busy but worth a visit”

St Mark's Square is always packed with people, however there are some great views. St Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace in particular. A good place to start your tour from!

“Amazing Landmark”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

We waited until evening to visit St. Mark's Square and were very happy we avoided the huge crowds we had seen there earlier in the day. Very majestic, beautiful architecture. Many photo opportunities in this area that we were very happy we waited until later in the day to capture. It was really fun to be in this awe inspiring area and then cross into the adjacent streets and all the trendy shopping. Cool area, not to be missed, something for everyone!!

“You need to come here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

You can't go to Venice without going to St. Mark's Square. The square is lively with people from all over the world, plenty of resturaunts to visit (although it is less expensive to eat elsewhere) and little shops worth looking through. There is also music playing which is fun to listen to. Definitely worth some of your time while in Venice!

Just a word to the wise, there are many pick pocketers and people that will come up to you trying to sell you things. Be wary of your surroundings and watch your bags. If someone comes up to you in attempt to make you buy something, ignore them and pretend you can't understand what they are saying.

“Crowded to say the least!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

Been there, done that, certainly did not buy a t shirt. Very crowded and way too expensive to eat or drink. Take a walk away from the square up the back streets, lots of bars and places to eat where you won't get fleeced.
