Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“Come early to avoid the crowd”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Come early to avoid the crowd at the Piazza San Marco. What else can I say....this famous landmark in Venezia is a place pulsating with tourists. Thousands of tourists visit St. Mark's Square daily. History, art and culture can be found around the buildings in the Square. Fine restaurants line the square. Shops of various kinds and quality abound. Consumers can buy cheap sailor's hat with Venezia on it, masks, jewelries, and souvenirs a plenty.
A tourist visiting Venice for the first time should not miss this historical place. Oh how I wish I could go back to Venice again and experience the energy and beauty that could only be found in St. Mark's Square.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

The piazza is beautiful and, of course, a must see to whoever visits Venice. As the entire city, it is surrounded by historical buildings and right next to the Palazzo Ducale and the Public Library. By the way, both worth a visit! And there is no need to mention the San Marco Basilica, right?

“Good to visit”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

The square is surrounded by some varied and interesting architecture, with many cultural places to visit close by. The restaurants, shops, etc close to the square are more expensive. On our second day in Venice the square was flooded so we had to walk on tressle tables to get round, it was an experience!

Reviewed March 25, 2013

This is a MUST of course, the Plaza San Marco IS VENICE, you have to come and take a bunch of pictures, go inside every landmark and if possible climb to the roof top of the Church and tower.
