Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

I just love pigeons on my arms, shoulders and in my hair. The ambience of St Marco is very thrilling, especially on a hot summers day.

“It cannot be missed....”

I just love this place. Especially there is a carnival going on when I was there. You can see people celebrated the event with beautiful costumes and masks. This is all so unique and can only be found here.

“A Must See”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

Takes your breath away when you first walk in, simply amazing and clearly the heart of Venice.

We came here alot, I would try and get there early to avoid the annoying free lance sellers trying to force their roses or whatever squidgy gimmicky plastic tourist rubbish they have on offer that nobody is interested in (trust me, they were irritating and in your face... frequently!). At night was simply magical, almost medieval with the moon above the square, everywhere beautifully lit, with fantastic orchestral music from the posh restaurants drifting across the square, memories we will never forget.

Another highlight was a refreshing gelato while moseying around the square and people watching - I took a thousand photographs and loved the atmosphere.

Enjoy :D

“A MUST DO for Your LIFE”

Walk around, go to Florian's for a Cappuccino, Campari, or Negroni. Sit back and Enjoy what NAPOLEON called the Greatest Lving Room in Europe, The Piazzza San Marco ..

“The Pulse of Venice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

When we first entered St Mark's Square we knew we were in the heart of Venice. It was mid-day and the square was full of tourists from the cruise ships, the mainland and those staying in the city itself. But the buzz of the people as they gazed at the Duomo, the Doge's Palace the Campanile and the facades leading down to the far end at the Correr Museum only added to the excitement we felt. But the magic came for us as the sun set, the crowds disappeared, and the music began. Three separate restaurants have stages outside facing the Square where beautiful music is played each night. For a rather steep cover charge you could sit at their tables to enjoy the music while perhaps ordering a drink or snack. But for free you can stand behind the tables and enjoy the ambiance, perhaps with a drink or a gelato in hand. St Mark's Square was the ending for each of our nights in Venice.
