Owner description: It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.

“Watching the whole world go by”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

Some say a cliche, but I thoroughly enjoyed strolling around on a Sunday, having my coffee served in silver pot, and monogrammed linen, listening to musicians and having the world pass by.
I could begin to imagine how spectacular it must have seemed to visitors arriving in past centuries.. how in awe they must have been at the splendor of it all.. .

“St Marks Square, Venice”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

In Venice, all the "action" is in and around St Marks Square. Within 5 minutes walk of the Square you'll see lots of markets and shops, The Bridge of Sighs, The Bascillica and the Palazza Ducafe. All the buildings that forms the St Marks Square are also beautiful. We only had one day in Venice and 90% of what we wanted to see was at the Square. Of cause you can visit the other islands, but with limited time we chose to rather visit the shops on the Square to buy glass and lace products as gifts. We also did the gondola ride in the evening--which was most enjoyable though quite expensive.

If you are in Italy or near Venice, you must visit this unique place--once in your life!!

“can not miss”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

it would be a shame to miss the Piazza San Marco when in Venice. The square can accomodate many travelers and is a wonder of the old architecture being preserved.

“Amazing.”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Not matter what time of the day the square is always buzzing with tourists plenty of shops and restaurants round the outside where you can sit and watch the world go by, and take in the great view of the cathedral and bell tower of St Mark's. A must.

“St. Mark's Square”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Go every chance you can. Better pics when the sun is shining. The gold shows up more on the basilica. Go inside the basilica and down to the left of the building is Murano. Beautiful to view but good prices found everywhere in Venice
