Owner description: Venice's main water thoroughfare, lined with great Renaissance palaces, is a colorful and busy spectacle of gondolas and vaporetti.

Buy a 'hop-on-hop-off' ticket for the vaporetto (you can buy these based on duration ranging from 1hr to 48hrs), try and get a seat at the front of the boat and sit back and admire the beauty of the city. If a particular site takes your fancy just get off, explore and wait for the next vaporetto - they are very frequent with different calling points.

Wow, to see The Grand Canal firsthand is so awesome and memorable. Absolutely amazing to see how the Venetians live with the water on every side of them. Lovely buildings, cafes, shops. The vaporetti pass allows unlimited transfers up and down The Grand Canal as well as transports to other areas of the city as well as surrounding islands.

The scenery, age and history of this place is incredible. It's a shame and crime that even here you see occasional graffiti painted on things. The back side of the Rialto Bridge is covered with this garbage. It seems like as much as we hate the big brother theory places like this should have closed circuit tv's watching and protecting them. What a shame.
Anyway,,,,,,, The Grand Canal is superb.

The Grand Canal is definitely worth your time. The canal is the busiest and most interesting place where boats, water taxis, gondolas, water buses etc. all come together. There can be some very interesting "traffic jams"!

The Grand Canal is a must for anyone visiting Venice, it is the main thoroughfair for traffic through the city and there is always something going on to interest the spectator be it a floatilla of gondolas, a water taxi or a wedding, the canal is exciting and say everything that Venice is
