Can't believe some of the recent reviews of the alla Madonna!
It is excellent on all counts and is certainly a "must" for anyone visiting Venice - one of the most expensive places to eat in the world!- and looking for great, well-priced food in a traditional Italian trattoria!
Yes, it is initially difficult to find tucked down a little alley on the right hand side of the Grand Canal over the Rialto Bridge, opposite the Rialto Vaporetto stop, but it's well worth searching it out!
As you walk in you're struck by the array of fresh fish and shellfish on display - a great indication of what's to come if you're a fish lover!
My wife adores fish, of any variety, and just loved her fresh crabmeat starter and grilled sea bass main course, whilst I had a great ravioli starter followed by veal alla Milanese (breadcrumbs) - both wonderful! Had lovely artichokes and French fries as side dishes - both fresh and delicious! Even their bread was one of the nicest we'd eaten as the Italians aren't great on bread in my view!
I had the home-made tiramisu, which was really nice, and an Italian favourite!
The service was friendly and attentive throughout and the place was nice and buzzy, giving it a great atmosphere.
We'd been recommended to go and try out alla Madonna and were so glad we found it!
Cannot recommend it enough and please try it out! You won't be disappointed I'm sure!
