“Eat where the locals eat.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014 via mobile

As I said, locals come here for a simple bite to eat and a glass or 2 to help wash it down. Small panni's which are very basic, but fresher than anywhere else due to the volume that they sell.

Come here on your own or with friends and enjoy standing around with everything Italian surrounding you.

“Super cichetti!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

We visited this place after the Tripadvisor recommendations and we tried all of their mini Panini (called cichetti), in order to taste all the flavors!

We hence ordered 10 Panini at 9 Eur total, to take away; all of them were delicious and made with very good quality ingredients!

Do visit this place to have a hint of Venice spirit, they also sell wine and Spritz!

“Find this stand first - you will want to keep coming back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013 via mobile

Right across canal from our hotel, we saw lines here each day. On our last day we tried it and we are so glad we did. Delicious sandwiches for about a euro and small glasses of wine for $0.60 each! I call it a stand because there is only a counter inside and people sit on the steps in the small plaza or just stand and eat. We grabbed a bag of sandwiches to go and were the envy of all on the train ride to Rome.

“You want everyday Venice? Here it is..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2013

Lele's is simply a great Venetian place, it's a tiny Bacari - let's say "bacarinino" eh? However it's simply a perfectly placed location that has tasty no nonsense ciccheti and FANTASTIC ambiance.
The food- Simple-this isn't a restaurant-the food is meant to be plentiful, tasty, simple and local.
If you're looking for pizza or a revolutionary ciccheti, this isn't here, if you're looking for the craziest cocktails, again..look elsewhere.
However if you're looking to where the locals go because they know the men who own, serve, make jokes, and shake hands with each and EVERY PERSON who takes the time to stand in line and have their ombra, then you've found the perfect spot.
In the early morning, this is where the working men go, a quick cafe, a little grappa, an ombra or two (or three) maybe a simple panini, maybe some salumi. Fabio greets and cajoles and makes welcome all who come.
In the later parts of the day, this is where the students come? Why...Lele's is directly outside the western door of Università Cà Foscari di Venezia, so there are students a plenty, 4-5-6 deep in the tiny doorway to get a quick (and inexpensive) lunch or spritz.

If you're disembarking from a cruise ship or day tripping with 10 Italian cities in your 12 day itinerary..give Lele's a pass, you won't have the time to absorb this place, the best parts of any day come with an experience, and as with much of Venice, and the planet as a whole, are best done as layers, first a drink, then another, then a ciccheti, then another drink, then some cafe all while enjoying some sun by the canal.

The cusp of Sante Croce and Dorsoduro, these are residential areas, so much of what you see here is Venice for Venetians, and HERE is where your Venetian adventure should begin
