This lesson was by far one of the best experiences we had in Venice. Anna provided a great history of the different row boats in Venice and was extremely patient with us as we rowed down a canal and into the lagoon. We opted for the longer lesson so our family of 4 could all try. Our children are 11 and 13 and also said this was one of their best experiences of our vacation. Anna also has a beautiful voice and would sing as we rowed to keep us in sync. The boat you row is new and is a predecessor to the gondola and uses one or two rowers (which in necessary in the lagoon with the wind and current). The place where you row is in a very quite area of Venice and away from the tourists and chaos of San Marco square and the grand canal.

I found 'Row Venice' on TA and thought what a fun thing to do on our third visit to Venice, I made my reservation online directly with the business, Jane was very prompt in answering my email request. On the day of our lesson, my husband and I met by Jane, our instructor, at the marina on the northern side of Venice, we had no trouble finding the location.

Jane initially explained to us how to row in the traditional Venetian way, standing up. Our 1.5 hour lesson had one of us at the same time rowing with Jane, one at the front of the boat, the other at the back and later on we swapped over. The rowing style for the front is different to that in the back, coupled with the current in the canals it was harder than I thought it would be.

We were very lucky with the weather on the day, gorgeous sunny day, lots of smiles and laughs were had by all. If you have been to Venice before and are looking for a different experience, try your hand at 'voga alla veneta'. I thought the cost of the activity was a fair price, thanks Row Venice for a great morning.

This made a great memory of Venice!

It was comfortable for our family of 4 (children 10 and 12). It was nice to see the quiet residential areas of Venice. The meeting point was not that difficult to find with a good map and basic map-reading skills.

The guide/instructor is from a family of competitive rowers and rowing is her life. She had a great deal of passion for the sport and for her home city.

We had a miscommunication with the price - we were initially advised the cost was 80 euros for our family, then we were suddenly requested to pay 120 euros. Although I was upset, the group handled it very professionally, explaining the error and pointing out the spot on the website where the price was shown to be 120 euros for 4 people. They also explained that they are volunteers, it is not designated as a profit-making venture for them.

A very enjoyable trip.

A must do when in Venice. What could be more fun than learning the skills of a gondolier while in Venice? Really. The lesson takes place in a lovely quiet residential area away from all the tourist hustle and bustle, that alone was delightful. Nan was our guide, a Kentucky native relocated to Venice and full of fun facts and info.
It is difficult to find so leave extra time but if you walk the right way you will get to see the last bridge in Venice without a railing! If you have kids old enough to try this, this is a no brainer, they will remember it forever.

My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) had a very fun and memorable experience with Row Venice. Felix was our instructor, and was very patient with all of us. The rowing technique was harder than it looked, especially for me, but we all enjoyed trying it. We started in the quiet canals, and eventually rowed through the grand canal, which was the highlight of the adventure. We would have liked to hear a bit more history about Venice and gondolas, but overall, we had a great time. We had a little difficulty finding the meeting spot, so try to leave extra time in case you get lost. It's in a very nice and quiet section of Venice. Afterwards, Felix recommended a very good local (non-touristy) restaurant. I would definitely recommend Row Venice. The company was responsive to my emails before our trip, and the experience is fun, unique and a good value.
