“Disappointing evening”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

My party of three attended a performance on Christmas Day; this was my Christmas present to my two companions. I attended a performance a few years ago and very much enjoyed it and I was therefore disappointed to find this time round that there were so many people in the audience we could only see the singers intermittently and could not see the musicians at all, in any of the three rooms in which the opera took place. As the tickets cost considerably more than they did the first time I went, I was not best pleased. Getting to the venue really early to get a good seat would only solve the problem for the first Act, as of course everyone moves to different rooms for Acts 2 and 3. It might be that the audience was particularly small the first time I went to a performance; or perhaps the audience on Christmas Day 2012 was particularly large. I haven't seen any other reviewers mention this problem, so perhaps we were just unlucky. I was extremely disappointed.

Can I also add a plea to those of you who may be attending a performance in future; please do turn off your mobile phones. It is very distracting to see lit phone screens and people texting away during a performance and greatly reduces the atmosphere of these splendid rooms.

“An unusual musical salon experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We were half expecting this to be full of tacky opera duets - it is nothing of the kind.
There is an audience of approx 40 in an intimate setting of an ancient Palazzo. A string quartet, pianist and 2 costumed opera singers perform about a dozen love duets with some considerable style, panache and quality. Being as close as you are really brings home the intensity of the music and their performance.
A wonderful different experience that should be tried by all visitors.

“La Traviata in a perfect setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

It's hard to find anything to dislike about this. It was a perfect opera to choose for such a setting, and it was performed with panache and distinction. The fact that the woman who played Violetta was stunningly beautiful was the icing on the cake.

“An Experience To Remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is the way everyone should experience opera for the first time. My husband and I had a bad first opera experience about 15 years ago and have never tried it again. This was entirely different. The music was beautiful and well played. The performance was excellent. And then to top it off seeing it in a Palace, in Venice. Wow. I was very moved by the performance. It was exceptional.

“Surreal experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

I've been to couple of operas but this one was particularly unique and interesting.
It's held in an old castle and opera singers are just a meter away!
it feels very intimate, personal, and felt like you are actually living in medieval times!
strongly recommended!
