What a delightful week we have had at Palazzo Foscarini through Friendly Rentals, under the name Giorgione Apartment. The living room is the selling point: imposing, full of traditional Venetian style and with a small balcony which the three of us breakfasted on, overlooking space and greenery. My 21 year old daughter slept in the little room without complaint and was delighted to see the Wi-Fi password on arrival. It was very dependable. I enjoyed going to the nearby bakery, wine shop, butcher’s and supermarket in or around Campo San Margherita, pretending to be local! My husband appreciated the proximity to the bus station (walking with cases from the airport express bus to the apartment took an unrushed six or seven minutes) and nearby Ca’Rezzonico vaporetto stop for easy movement around the city. We loved the Biennale, Murano, Burano and Cemetery Island. The television in the apartment is too small for the room but we don’t really watch it whilst away. The kitchen is small but sufficed. It was nice to see staples such as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, a complimentary bottle of wine and multiple toilet rolls! Our meeting with the representative was simple – a phone call or two - and we met outside the apartment. Everything was explained clearly. I would go back in a blink. I’ve stayed in two other lovely apartments in Venice but this has been my favourite.

“Perfect apartment!”

We stayed at the apartment from 10th-14th May. We arrived at Marco Polo airport and took a water bus from there. We chose the orange route and got off at Ca' Rezzonico stop. The journey takes about an hour from the airport. Once you get off at Ca' Rezzonico stop, the Apartment is a very short 5 minute walk away.
Anna is lovely and was so welcoming. The apartment is beautiful and has everything you could possible need. We had a lovely welcome bottle of wine waiting for us ( delicious!) and a welcome breakfast basket, as well as milk and orange juice. There is free WiFi .
From the apartment we were able to explore Venice on foot, although you could take water buses if you wished to.
There is a local square, campo s margherita, a few minutes away, and that has cafes, shops etc. We also found a great supermarket about 10 minutes walk away on the sea front fdm zattere pont lungo. This is a lovely area and from here you can walk all along the coast line right to the end, turning left at smarie d salute to get some wonderful views. From there you can walk on to academia bridge and beyond. Lovely walk/ views.
We also found a wonderful ristorante/ pizzeria, literally a few minutes walk away. It is called Al Profeta and is on Calle Lunga San Barnaba.
We had a lovely holiday and highly recommend Anna's beautiful apartment. Ciao!

“Beautiful quiet apartment in old palazzo, perfect for exploring Venice”

The apartment is well located in a peaceful area, but with a canal outside the front of the building and easy short walks to the sights, restaurants, and vaporetto stops. If you arrive in Venice by train or bus then its a pretty 10 minute walk to the apartment. The welcome from Anna, the owner, was great and genuine and she provided plenty of useful information that helped make us feel at home.

Venice can get a bit choked up with tourists, but I just loved opening that big door and stepping into the tranquility of that courtyard.
We were warmly welcomed, and found the apartment had excellent facilities, gorgeous decor, and a little balcony where we could listen to someone practising their operatic repertoire… quite magical!
A short walk to supermarkets, restaurants, and many attractions, but still away from the crowds. The rest of Venice only a vaporetti ride away.
Worth noting that the walk from the station involves quite a few stairs. You need to be fit enough to carry your bags a bit!

“Nice true local neighborhood apartment”
Reviewed September 22, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

If you really want to experience true local Venetian lifestyle this apartment rental represents quite well as one of the choices.

This review is for one of the 3 properties under the heading of Palazzo Foscarini (which from pictures looked magnificent and was a former Doge's home and was my first choice and not available for my time slot) and I selected the Ca' Zucchero. All 3 apartments are in the Dorsoduro area. For those who are not familiar with Venice (and this is only my second time here so I am no expert) I would say it is such a walking city you really dont have to worry which of the 6 sestiere (districts) you want to stay, all major sights are reachable easily with walking and vaporetto pass.

I selected Dorsoduro because I didnt want TOO touristy area so I ruled out anything too close to San Mark's Square, Grand Canal area, Rialto, Piazza Roma, train station etc etc since it might be kind of noisy during the day especially. Also from what I read Dorsoduro has a lot of good neighborhood restaurants that are reasonable (Campo Santa Margharita area are known to be college kids hangout).

Well, stayed here for 5 days and it certainly was up to my expectation for quietness, did not have to struggle through crowds just to get to my apartment. Correspondence via emails with Anna was prompt way before arriving in Venice. Full instructions were given how to get to apartment and meeting point. I also used the Google "little yellow man" to walk the streets around apartment to get a feel of where it is and it's neighborhood.

From Piazza Roma I used the Vaporetto #1 heading right towards Lido and meandered through the Grand Canal and exited Ca' Rezzonico stop, walked left then along the Calle del Traghetto which cut through this island right in the middle. The apartment location is all the way to the end just before a bridge left turn into a small tunnel, less than 1000 feet distance from vaporetto stop and less than 10 minutes walk even with luggages. Midway through you will pass by Campo San Barnaba where the initial meeting place with Andrea (Anna's husband) and he took us to the apartment.

This apartment is very spacious, got a master room with queen bed. Another guest room with 2 twin beds, large kitchen with all utensils (perfect for those who wants to do some cooking at home) and a living room with TV. There are 8 large windows on 3 different facings--the kitchen, living room and guest bedrooms have windows that looked down to a small canal. The other rooms windows looked down into small courtyard and alleyway. Overall extremely quiet LOCAL neighborhood and feel very SAFE. Oh bathroom is huge also with a skylight. SO plenty of light all around and airy feel.

Part of the decision of choosing this over others are: This apartment listing has some of the most reviews on TA and they are universally positive and for about the same price apartment wins out over hotel. I've looked at many hotels in different neighborhood for same price you just have a room with bed, closet and bathroom, much smaller than this. Perhaps the negatives for some travelers this is no hotel-- so no changing of linen/towels everyday, no concierge to ask questions (although Anna and Andrea both have phone and emails you can get in touch with, there is free Wifi limited to 1gb during our stay which is enough), and the most challenging of all is to haul your luggages (and Andrea helped) up 3 flights of relatively narrow stairs since there is no elevator (but I think that is typical of many Venetian places including some hotels). So I probably would not recommend this to the physically challenged nor the really elderly or extremely young or very pregnant. But if you can overcome that, you will be rewarded with true local Venetian living for a short or long stay.

Location is convenient--along the main street of Calle de Traghetto, there are plenty of eating places, shops, convenient store, small pharmacy. 2 grocery stores are in proximity-- Punto Simply north in Campo Santa Margherita, Billa towards south by Fondamenta Zattere by the Zattere vapo stop, both about 10 minutes walk. Walking to the major tourist sights--St Mark Square, Rialto, Accademia, Peggy Guggenheim etc, Piazza Roma, train station all can be done within an hour or much less, and with vaporetto even quicker. Although walking with luggages to any of these are not recommended since the whole of Venice are many narrow streets and bridges. The same vaporetto stop (Ca' Rezzonico) you can use Allilaguna (Orange/Arancio) line and go direct to the airport for 15 euros.

“Calm cool and ideally located for a sizzling Venetian Summer Holiday”
Reviewed August 20, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We loved this safe quiet residential apartment. We stayed a delightful 10 days. The high ceiling in the huge living area, cool marbled floors and the air con was a much needed relief after a hot day seeing the high lights of venice. We were 5-10 mins from saint rocci, saint barnaba (ai artisti cafe), academia, ca rezonicco and its vaporetto stop. The tiny kitchen was enough for us - so many good restos and deli's nearby.
It was good to have the washing machine and dishwasher.

Small gripes: First the shower was a bit small and needs attention. Then, the little second room would be practical in winter but was far to hot in summer despite good air con units downstairs. Finally, getting to the apart was a mission because of bridges (4 or 5) and baggage, my daughter and I would have appreciated (paid for) assisstance here. The direction map was not clear nor bridges explained for those who do not know Venice well). The man who finally met us did not think to offer assistance until we arrived at the apart stairs and my daughter sobbed that she
couldn't go on!

Nonetheless, i must note if you are traveling with a pet (2 chihuahua in our case) this apartment is unbeatable for value and charm that largely offset any nuisance we experienced.
