“A quirky hidden gem”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

This was our second stay at Ca' Zora and we specifically booked the ground floor apartment again with its own little courtyard, which is a lovely suntrap to have breakfast.

The location is brilliant, just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, and only a few minutes' walk from St Mark's. But it does take some finding! Once you know your route, it's great. There's a little supermarket, grocers, bakers etc all in easy reach.

The flat is well equipped, the Wi-Fi looks like it has been sorted as we had good access in the lounge/kitchen and courtyard. There are 2 comfortable double bedrooms one of which is en suite. Air conditioning, TV, 2-ring hob, grill, fridge and a mish-mash of kitchen paraphernalia.

I love the fact that both times we have been, some bits and bobs left by the previous visitors has been left, like washing up liquid, olive oil, salt, pepper, etc. I find it really annoying that some places strip everything, (even down to loo roll) which is really annoying when you are planning to self-cater. No such worries at Ca' Zora. If I was going to be picky, as another reviewer mentioned the towels are scratchy - but perfectly clean, and I would suggest an extractor fan in the main bathroom.

We were given a map with points of interest marked up, although we didn't particularly rate the restaurant we tried.

What I would say is that if you are looking for a modern bright and shiny pied-a-terre, then this probably wouldn't suit. The paint and plaster is a bit tired and crumbly in a couple of places, but the place is clean, and I gather they are planning to sort that out soon.

If we go back to Venice again, we will definitely be staying here again.

when we arrived at Ca´Zora we thought that we would have a small room with a bed. But when we recieved the room key we were surprised to see that it was a really big Appartmetn with a nice kitchen, big bathroom with a very nice interior.
We had a great time at your place and the price is more than acceptable. andits only 4 minutes walk to S. Marco.
Thank you

We stayed here for two nights. One of the owners, Salvatore, recommended a few restaurants / taverns for us to check out and also gave a few tips on how to avoid tourist traps. We strayed from his advice a couple of times and discovered that Venice can get very expensive. However, when we followed his advice, we were rewarded with fantastic food, great wine, and even better prices!
With regards to the accommodations, my guess is that we had one of the smaller rooms. The room was clean though and we still had all of the comforts of an en suite bathroom, comfortable king size bed, and breakfast served in the morning… and in all fairness, you don’t go to Venice to stay in your room.
As far as bang for your buck is concerned, this place is right on point. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Venice.

The size of the "apartment" was big and well equipt with mostly everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the location was accessible to everything. It took a while for the place to warm up, which was freezing when we arrived. Also, the communication between us and the owner was near to nothing. The kitchen was the plus. The towels were very crunchy and smelt like chlorine, but clean, and the shower/bathroom had a funny smell to it. When we go back to Venice it is likely we will look for a different place to stay.

We stayed 3 nights at Ca' Zora. We had a spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with lounge and kitchen. The Filipo gave us a map and highlighted the sights and some great places to eat. We try a few and the food was amazing. The apartment is in a great location, close to St Marks Square, but not too close so you dont feel like your surrounded by tourists. The only thing was you could only get wifi in the lounge room. Other than that, everything was wonderful. We would definitely stay here again!

Ca Zora is conveniently located - 5 mins from St Marks yet in cheap local area - and was a great find. Everything was clean, the air con worked well and the whole place was very spacious. The kitchen facilities were fine. Owner gave us helpful tips etc. too, which was very useful.
The only issue we really had was with wifi - we couldn't get it at all in the bottom floor apartment and had to go on the stairs (not part of our apartment) for the rest of the building to receive it. Other than that everything was great.

We stayed for 4 nights in a spacious apartment with living area, separate bedroom, small kitchenette (included grill, sink, portable stove, pans, cooking utensils, lots of cutlery) and clean bathroom.
Filipo checked us in he was very helpful giving us suggestions to where you can find local venetian cuisine without the crazy tourist price tag.
It was easy to find,5-8 min walk from san zaccaria vaporetto stop, close to san Marco sq and close to supermarket (coop).
There are 2 improvements i would suggest to make the stay excellent:
1) bed bugs!
2) lighting was not as bright as i would have liked.
Paid 110€ per night overall i would recommend this stay.

Thank you so much for the great review!

Just one thing. There was no bed bugs! Bed bugs are a plague for any innkeeper in the world. And if you get them, you need to get the room cleaned by specialists. It happen to everyone everywhere in the world. We double-checked the room when we read this and there was no bed bugs. You probably got confused with mosquitos. About that, next time, come to us and ask to the anti-mosquito device.

Cheers!
