Getting to the hotel from venice Marco Polo Airport was fairly simple. We had pre-booked a private water taxi online on http://www.venicelink.com/index.php?lang=english, where we got it for EUR180 return. If we had gone to the airport and booked it, it would have been EUR220 return.
The water taxi dropped us at the pier which is about 200ms from the hotel. This was very convenient as we had our bags to lug with us. The hotel is beautiful with ornate venetian decor. We arrived early and the receptionist gave us a map and showed us howto get to Rialto Bridge. But as you would realise, even in Venice a map is not sufficient as you are bound to get lost. I guess that is all part of the venetian adventure.
Back at the hotel we were given the keys to our room. It was so beautiful with lush red velvet and ornate gold accents throughout the room. It was truly beautiful.
The shower was also great and so was the lovel towel warmer (which is very handy in winter/ rainy season).
The breakfast is really good and is typically italian with croissants and other pastries on display. They do also have cheese and a selection of cold meats and scrambled eggs (which you can order seperately for EUR4 and is really good).
Venice is an expensive city and i feel that Hotel Al Duca Di Venezia is really good value for money as it is just about a half an hour walk (including the time getting lost) to the Rialto Bridge. It is also about a 5min walk to the San Stae station where you can catch the water taxi to San Marco.
We will be back here, should Venice be on our itinerary again!
