very rude waiter - he became a little more polite, when he found out, that some of us could understand, what he was saying... explained to us, that he was not in good condition because he had to much alcohol the night before... food was partially disgusting and out of the microwave, partially really unacceptable, seems they use some asia-noodle-microwave-food. arrogant behaviour also from the chief of this place. excessive price for a really bad meal.

This is an adorable restaurant. The small dining room is beautiful. The food was excellent. The seafood soup was terrific. The Spaghetti Carbonara was great. They don't spend much English. Dinner was 100 euros. We would probably do the pre fix dinner next time

While walking the streets of the Santa Croce sestierre, a Canadian family we met suggested a “Mom & Pop” restaurant that they thought was outstanding. We decided to try it.

La Buon Forchetta is a small restaurant with only 5 tables and seemed to be the first floor of someone's house. For sure, a true Mom and Pop operation with “Mom” greeting us and then taking the orders and “Pop” cooking the orders in a very tiny kitchen. We had a spaghetti with mixed seafood (mussels, shrimps, and scallops), and two of us each had the 2-course fixed menu. For the fixed menu, one chose spaghetti carbonara and grilled shrimp. The other chose gnocchi with lobster (langoustine) and cuttlefish, which is a Venetian specialty.

All were fantastic and we agreed the best meal of our trip so far. Recommended for a truly non-touristy and memorable meal in Venice.

When this restaurant was suggested to us, it sounded charming as the consierge described it as a very small family run restaurant that is also the owner's house. When we arrived the windows and doors were open as there is no air conditioning. At the time, the weather was in the 90 degrees so the restaurant was too hot to even enjoy the best of food. The food was served in a family style with the food really looking like something you could make at home...no big deal. In fact, my Italien food is better than what was served to me and I am not Italien. The music was unusual in that the owner would play the same song several times in a row and then change the music to another song which would play over and over...weird. The atmosphere is one that is suppose to be charming, but really is old, dirty clutter. The final and most important negative aspect to our experience were the cockroaches crawling on the old piano next to our table. Very unappealing. I cannot image what the kitchen must look like.

La Buona Forchetta
Calle de Perdon, San Paolo, Venice
Genuine, authentic Venetian Cuisine. Never disappointed.
This tiny restaurant just off the main stretch between the Rialto and the Campo San Paolo is a gem for anyone who values authentic food and service.   Unlike the restaurants on the tourist strip near the Grand Canal, La Buona Forchetta has excellent Venetian food and one feels like you have dined in someone's home. This is partly due to the fact that Marinella, treats you like you are guests at her table. Every now and then she calls out to her husband Jimmy, about something or other. Jimmy cooks the food and he is an excellent chef.

The scampi in salsa rosa and the scallops are to die for and the scampi busara is also excellent. Whenever we go to Venice, we have dinner here every night because it is always beautifully prepared and Marinella looks after us so well. I would recommend that you ask Marinella what she recommends on a particular night.  Venice thrives on fresh produce so it is best to go with whatever she recommends. Certainly you can also get "lasagne" "carbonara" but these are not typically Venetian and you will lock yourself out of the glorious authentic food of the region if you order what you know, rather than what is fabulous from this kitchen.

For starters , Marinella always arrives with some freshly prepared bruschetta. Purchased water is always poured into one of her beautiful pouring jugs and one you have decided on white or red wine, she will bring you one from her selection. During the evening she often brings other treats she thinks you will enjoy.

For an authentic dining experience where one feels totally at home, try La Buona Forchetta. It is reasonably priced for what you receive.
English speakers please note that Marinella speaks only some English, so ensure that you understand her recommendations before you say "si".
We hope to return to Venice so  we can eat at La Buona Forchetta every night
