Visited this restaurant 29.6.14 as the location and outer appearance looked nice.
Moved inside after a drink outside. The menu looked promising but the food we ordered was totally tasteless. My shrimp risotto had 3 small tails in it, and looked like porridge. Nothing to decorate or no try in getting it to look good.Asked for garlic trying to spice it up. The staff was friendly but after my frank comment that the risotto tasted absolutely nothing, they did not ask or comment how the food was. After one week traveling around northern Italy, this was the worst and most expensive meal for the whole week. Would not recommend it nor going back.

Said to be the most romantic place at sunset, still a nice stopover any other time of the day. It occupies the historic building of Banco Giro, a former public bank of the Republic of Venice, with an open terrace at the foot of Rialto Bridge. Order your spritz and soak up the atmosphere enjoying the view of the Grand Canal… Oh and don’t miss their cicheti, made to order and served on a sliced fresh bread, they are delicious!

We ate here in early June and perhaps the menu has changed but here's our review. I had reservations in advance so we had a lovely outside patio table with a nice view. Our waiter was efficient and we loved our wine choice and had two bottles. I didn't love the barley risotto with vegetables but that was the only misstep. My tablemates loved the Fettucinni with Lemongrass and Mussels and the gnocci. My husband and son loved their steak and salad. I loved the fish cooked in paper, it was divine and moist and delicious.

We were there the first night of a new menu and had a wonderful discussion with the Chief of the restaurant. He elicited our opinion and we gave it. The raw fish carpaccio was terrific with a cup of passion fruit mouse, which worked. The fish main courses were all excellent with a twist. The oddest dish was a pasta with ginger in the pasta and with a light wine sauce with shellfish and snow peas. This would not work for all but we enjoyed it. All of the dishes have real innovation in some aspect. Loved it enough to want to go back. Service was friendly and good, English spoken. All that aside it has one of the premier locations right on the Grand Canal by the Marketplace. Expensive but not for Venice and not for great food. Reservations a must.

We visited Bancogiro in the evening and even though we did not have a reservation, the friendly maitre d' offered us a prime outside table with clear views of the canal, boats and gondolas. My seafood entree (Bancogiro style) was exquisite; my wife ordered scallops in filo with a licorice sauce that was unusual but not unenjoyable. The main of spaghetti with mussels and ginger was great as well accompanied by a Venetian Pinot Grigio. The wait staff were attentive and not overbearing. The overall experience of the meal was great and we would certainly go again if we return to Venice
