Owner description: The collective exhibition ‘Dancing with Myself’ is open at Punta della Dogana from April 8 to December 6, 2018. Curated by Martin Bethenod and Florian Ebner, it stems from the collaboration between the Pinault Collection and the Folkwang Museum in Essen. The exhibition, presented in a first version in 2016 in Essen, proposes a revisited path with over 56 artworks not featured in the German museum. ‘Dancing with Myself’ faces the primordial importance of the artist’s role as actor and material of his own creations, from the 1970s to today. The exhibition brings together a great range of artistic practices and languages (photography, video, painting, sculpture, installation…), cultures, geographic origins, generations and experiences. The exhibition revolves around four themes – Melancholia, Identity Games, Political Autobiographies, Raw Material - that develop evenly through the spaces of Punta della Dogana with 145 works.

A extraordinary and beautiful renovation by Tadao Ando but since the Dogana has opened the shows have been deteriorating in quality rapidly. The current show is limp and the fabulous outdoor sculpture of Boy with Frog by Charles Ray has been removed, albeit by the city and not the museum. They have the place and, I assume, the reserves to host truly interesting and engaging art exhibits. Why waste people's time and money? Maybe France didn't miss out on Pinault after all.

Francois Pinault took the old Venetian Customs House and hired one of our very best architects, Tadeo Ando, who used concrete to turn it into one of the most interesting museums in the world. It shows changing exhibits of contemporary art.

Good website with beautiful photos:http://arcadenw.org/article/punta-della-dogana-contemporary-art-centre written by Barbara Swift.

Exceptional works, gallery and architecture in an incredible location. Its the other half of Palazzo Grazzi and shows a really good range of works. Allow 2 hours!

Don't miss this place-- while it's not as stunning as San Marco or other palazzos on the Grand Canal, it's a nice contemporary take with fascinating contemporary exhibitions. Worth a quick trip. The gallery space alone-- converted from an old customs house-- is fantastic.

Really fun, small contemporary art museum in former customs house. Lots of natural light coming through beautiful windows onto the canal.
