Really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Grand Canal. The staff are friendly and helpful. Use the water taxi from/to the airport and this takes you straight to/from the door of the hotel. Lots of good restaurants within an easy walk of the hotel. One of the best features of the hotel was the small balcony where we were able to take breakfast in the mornings and a drink or tea after dinner in the evenings while watching the passing parade on the Grand Canal, you will need to get your timing right to grab a table because it is very popular. Venice was a pleasant surprise because apart from the obvious tourist hits such as St Mark Square Cafes and gondola rides (both of which you should do at least once regardless of cost) you could eat and drink in good quality establishments at very reasonable prices.
