“"The best hotel" my partner had ever stayed in”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

We booked a week in Venice for may 2013 in September 2012, using Tripadvisor to select our hotel. Once again the Tripadvisor contributors information was spot on. The service at this hotel is first class. Everyone working there is always helpful, smiling and friendly. From the time we made the initial contact with Giovanna, through to Anka organising our water taxi from Marco Polo, our arrival welcomed and helped on to the jetty, our excellent room "Prestige Grand Canal Double Room" being already available to us at 11am, relaxed breakfast service, great bar service (drinks on jetty late afternoon or after dinner), and outstanding conscientious concierge service from all on the front desk, nothing could have been bettered. The "boutique" feel of this small hotel facilitates this service. The location gives easy access to everywhere via vaporetti (3 waterbus stops within short walk). Our room was beautifully decorated with good attention to detail. Rosanna initially took us to our room and finding that we were staying a full week commented "you will feel like family at the end"... and we did. Indeed they noticed my partner did not really eat at breakfast on the last morning (fear of flying!) and offered to pack some food for her to take!

Room Tip: Spend a little extra to get a Grand Canal view. We loved 202 Dogaressa.

Wow! We love this place! We are currently staying in a great room on the 2nd floor, Marco Ricci. The room is is 17th century Venetian style, with a great bathroom too. The mirror is a TV too! Amazing! The view is not over the canal, but tou can see it to the left out if the window. The common areas are lovely, the entire hotel is very well kept, and in 17th century style. The staff is great. Very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very nice, the breakfastroom has amazing canal views. Thw breakfast itself is very giid too, my fiancee is a coffe lover, and he praises the coffee that is made to order. The selection is great, fresh breads, croissants and lots of other pastries. Big tea selections, cereals, fresh friuts and fresh fruisalad, eggs, youghurt, cheeses, cold cuts and more. Excellent hotel in every way!

We stayed at Hotel Canal Grande for 4 nights at the end of April to May. This part of Venice (in my view) is the best part, as it is away from the hetic tourist bustle and is still easily accessible to every part of the trourist sites via water bus. the stop for the water bus is a few metres outside the front of the hotel. The streets around this hotel are full of lovely restaurants and are also wonderfully interesting to wonder around in.
Our room overlooked the Grand Canal and was everything we would have expected in an Venetian room but not over the top decor wise. Very beautifully decorated and very quiet.
The service given by the staff is fantastic. All of them were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. Breakfast was excellent and we did not require anything more.
I would most certainly stay here again and hope that we can return in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the Grand Canal. It was spacious and beautifully decorated. The back room...

The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. Even loaned us an umbrella for a rainy day (even after we had checked out). Room was quite nice and quiet. Breakfast was great. Location was great -- close to the rail station. Enjoyed the stay very much.

Everyone has said it but I have to agree, the staff at this hotel were amazing - friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Their customer service went the extra step with every interaction - giving as much detail as they possibly could so you knew where you were going, which buses/water taxi's to take etc

The hotel itself was ideally placed for arrival and departure but a bit of a trek to the main sites. However both of the main water taxi lines were very near the hotel so it was straightforward enough to get around.

I was asked on checkout whether there was anything that could have made the stay here better - I really can't think of anything - decor was fitting, room was comfortable and clean, breakfast was simple but great - everything you need for a visit to Venice.

Excellent hotel in all ways: lovely room, charming view over the canal, friendly staff, reasonable breakfast (Venice not generally being great for food), good value, spotlessly clean, quiet etc.etc. Can't fault it.

Room Tip: Carriera has a view of the canal and the square.

The first thing to like about this hotel is its close proximity to both the Santa Lucia railway station and and the bus drop off at Piazzale Roma, with only a short walk to each. However, this does mean a longer walk of around 15 minutes to Rialto and nearly 20 minutes to St Marks. The hotel itself is magnificent, rooms with Grand Canal views most highly recommended. These rooms are of good size and beautifully furnished, the four posted bed an outstanding feature. But it is the views that remain longest in memory. The breakfast provided is high quality and a good selection of typical foods and there are many good dining choices nearby as well as ATMs and a laundry. Hotel staff were excellent providing great service and friendly welcomes to all returning guests. There are many accommodation choices in Venice but it would be hard to imagine any better than the Hotel Canal Grande.

Room Tip: pay the extra for a Grand Canal view room
