“Warm welcome and excellent service”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed here for one night only in a Junior Suite for four people and the welcome and service were superb. Beautiful decor, excellent breakfast and additional helpful ticket booking for a musical show on the evening. Included in the price was a visit to a glass factory and show room on the island of Murano by water taxi with no pressure to buy.
Would love to go back in warmer weather and for longer.

We cancelled our reservation at the Hotel Danieli to experience a smaller hotel in a quieter area of Venice ... THANK GOODNESS we did! The staff at the Hotel CG is perfection. They welcomed us warmly and quickly escorted us to our rooms. They recommended delightful restaurants and were extremely well qualified to offer advice on the best attractions to visit. After visiting St. Mark's Square and seeing the large, bustling crowds, we were thrilled to return to our little jewel of a hotel away from the hubbub. We stayed in Pietro Longhi ... a room overlooking the Grand Canal ... the views from all five windows were lovely and the price of the room was a bargain compared to Hotel D. The hotel is immaculately clean and well-appointed with lovely furnishings and decor. We walked everywhere and it was an easy trek to the Rialto Bridge and on to St. Mark's Square. We also took the Vaparetto from the train station. This is the thing to do if you don't want to drag your luggage over a steep bridge. You get off the Vaparetto at the very first stop after getting on and the hotel gives easy walking directions from the stop to the hotel. Don't hesitate to choose Hotel GC. It's perfect!

We just finished a 3 night stay here and loved loved loved this hotel The classiness of this place reminded us of a small Plaza Hotel in NYC. The room was beautiful and clean. Our room faced the canal and was wonderful. The staff were very nice and helpful. Great place!!!

We stayed in the Longhi room on the 1st floor overlooking the canal for 3 nights late october.
The room we thought was very well sized, it had a wonderful four-poster bed in glorious gold and blue fabrics with gold accents everywhere. The room was wonderfully Venetian, felt luxurious and relaxing. The soundproofing is very good, though I am a light sleeper so i still heard the water buses running into the night and the garbage pick up boat early in the morning - but i am a light sleeper!
Also, as the room is on the first floor we were directly above the breakfast area and underneath another room, so we could hear chairs being moved across the floor from above and below, if you want a long lie in this might not be the room for you, but if you're up and ready for another busy day then its no bother at all.
The bed was very comfortable, and the room has air conditioning so you can find the perfect temperature for you.
The bathroom was a good size for us, with a wonderful shower, and the deep bath filled quickly for a nice soak in the evening to ease those tired aching leg muscles.
I would personally like bigger shower towels for use, but at least we had many of them for our use.
Housekeeping do a great job as the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.

The staff are very welcoming and despite the fact we arrived form our cruise ship at 9am, they looked after our luggage so we could go off exploring for the day.
Also we asked for some recommendations for places to eat which were typically Venetian, with simple good food and we were not disappointed at all, they were excellent so do ask! even better was that they were all fairly local to the hotel!
They were also extremely helpful, helping us sort out our shared taxi back to the airport, and even checking the taxi had the right pick up times as we had trouble with our booking. It's this sort of personal service and help which really stands out and makes Hotel Canal Grande a wonderful place to stay. The staff make the difference and they are all very friendly and helpful and that is what turns an ordinary stay into a wonderful one!
Located close to the bus stop, everywhere is in easy reach for exploring.
A superb hotel, you won't be disappointed.

I literally spent hrs. reading reviews on hotel in Venice. Wonderful ambiance is KEY for me-just ask my hubbie! I based my decision on reviews & location. It was just as described-PTL! We stayed 3 nights. Like other lucky travelers we were upgraded upon arrival to a Jr. Suite. It had 2 levels and was perfect as we were traveling with our 9yr son. He loved having his own space. Our room was upstairs (marble stairs mind you!) A beautiful, exquisite room, like a Faberge egg ;) Fabrics, furniture, even oriental rugs on parquet wooden floors were lovely. Also came with a hidden kitchenette complete w/fridge & stove. TV's were hidden behind the mirrors---very classy & clever. There was a candy waiting on our pillow every evening when we returned from our adventures in the city. Nice touch. The breakfasts had a great variety of foods and of course cappuccinos! You could order hot eggs for addtl charges but we didn't as more than satisfied w/buffet. The Front desk staff were very helpful. We booked dinner & Vivaldi concert with Giovanna -she was wonderful. Definitely advise getting tips from front desk on good local food vs. tourist traps which we fell into a few times-wish we'd thought of that earlier! It was also fantastic that the hotel was located so close to the Santa Lucia train station. We had a short walk (5 min). Our room was not facing the Grand Canal (we actually had a separate private entrance a few doors down from main entrance-which we liked.) but it had another set of stairs that went up to a private balcony...which had a loft feel. Super cool. The reception area/breakfast area did face the Grand canal and seeing all the boat traffic in the morning was fascinating. We didn't leave until 9pm on our last day. They were more than happy to hold our luggag. Oh I am so smitten with Venice & this hotel. Bella!

Room Tip: Jr. Suite was fantastic for traveling w/an older child!

We literally just left Venice yesterday and couldn't wait to tell other travelers about this gem. I'm a hotel snob and was relying on the other reviews but thought I'd take a chance. LOVED. We had just left the Hotel Spendide Royal in Rome and felt nickled and dimed about everything. When we arrived on Sunday it was freezing and raining like crazy. We were greeted professionally but genuinely at the same time. Immediately felt welcomed. My husband ordered a bottle of wine which was only 20.00 Euros (I thought extremely affordable since we were just charged 23.00 Euros per person for coffee and pastry at the Splendide Royal). The room was smaller but beautifully decorated and the TV was actually part of the Venetian mirror - really cool touch.
The staff was awesome and the location can't be beat. If you're coming by rail - you simply walk across the bridge and down a bit and the hotel is right there. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend. The only thing someone may have any issue with were the soap amenities which were really inconsequential to our stay.

When we asked for a restaurant recommendation we ended up at a place that was filled with locals which we loved as well. Give this place a chance the next time you're in Venice - you won't regret it.

Based on the reviews, we stayed two nights in October at the Hotel Canal Grande. Every accolade written by the reviewers is well deserved. The room was well appointed and clean, the location is good, the staff very helpful, the breakfast one of the best we experienced in Italy. Our only caution is that, if you have a room on the ground (or first floor for Americans), you will be able to hear all the movements of the guest in the room above you since the floors are tile. (We were in the Rialto room.) For those of you looking for a home cooked Italian meal at a good value, look no further than Osteria Alba Nova, a short walk from the hotel. Check out our review of this restaurant on TripAdvisor.

Room Tip: Avoid a ground floor (or first floor) room if the room above has tile floors.
