We found Atica Carbonera by chance, on our first night in Venice and we were so pleased. It was friendly and professional and we had our first great fish experience in Venice , we would like to book next time as we just turned up , as they had nice cosy cubby type tables which would be lovely for that romantic evening ! Next time !

We found this place by surprise and it turned out very good. We were sitting at the table right next to the semi-open kitchen and waiter-serving table. It was like watching a cooking show! The waiter Preio was so funny and nice! I don't agree it's tourist's trap as other reviews commented. The food was excellent and the 'slow' service is Italian standard. The price range is medium level to a nice "restorante".

General sense of indifference and complacency from management and staff. Three different waiters at different times, only one of whom (the older, more experienced local) seemed at all interested in serving us. The food was atrocious - the bread was stale, the mixed seafood was poorly prepared and almost cold, the potatoes were cold and seemed 3 days old. Only our daughter's simple pasta dish was passable. One of the worst experiences my wife and I have had. And it was relatively expensive. The restaurant decor suggests it was once a grand place to eat, and our experience may have been a one-off. But on the basis of what we experienced, we would not recommend it to anyone.

We had barle more than an hour before a concert and walked in without a reservation mid week....we were greeted warmly and offered a cosy booth which turned out to have in interesting history in and of itself! (check their website)

Service very good, pasta excellent, good choice of wines by the glass....

Desserts were superb and we even sampled the restaurant's own distilled grappa...which the waiter described as their moonshine!...even came in a clear glass jug!...it hit the spot, though....

Not inexpensive but a fair value for the quality of restaurant....cover charge, common in Europe for a restaurant at this level at €3 pp. is a bit steep. Still we would delight in returning there if we had the opportunity again.

My wife and I had an excellent meal in this place, and after a somewhat offhand start by our waiter we warmed to each other by the end, especially when we showed some interest in the grape varieties in the local wines. Between us we had curried crayfish with a rice tower, and carpaccio of beef to start, followed by squid with spaghetti nero and deep fried seafood and vegetables in a tempura batter. All the food was fresh, well cooked and well presented, and the wine list was impressive, including many local wines made with obscure grape varieties. The cost was high but the food and experience was worth it.
