“Better than expected as a base for Carnevale”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

We decided to stay at B&B for carnival instead of normal hotel as we were seeking wider freedom and choice than hotel in a shorter stay of 2 nights/3 days.

Making arrangement with the owner Giacomo prior to stay was pleasant. He gave us lots of tips what to expect and do. Reaching to B&B from airport was also very easy. A few minutes walk from a boat stop and easy to find the building.

As we arrived, his father was welcoming us and showing the house. He could speak only Italian but trying to explain what we can do and tell some stories about Venetian history! As it was the first time for us to be there, we misunderstood him as Giacomo.

The B&B is located in a residential area and we could feel how Venetians live there. Our room was facing a small canal and we could see how tide comes and goes. It was almost full moon when we stayed there that some parts of pedestrians were filled with water. As Giacomo's father ensured, the water was gone by next morning.

If one does not mind walk bit, this is an ideal base. St Marco is 20-25 min, Rialto is 15-20 min and Santa Lucia is about 20 min.

Giacomo offered lovely atmosphere and good time to chat as well. Very easy going atmosphere made us feel like our own place. We were lucky to be only guests then so we did not need to fight over bathroom.

Some Tips here:
Whoever goes back to the airport using Alilaguna boat need to be careful since the boat serving the line is smaller than other lines. The nearby stop Orto is the first one from Marco Polo but the last one from Venice so by the time a boat reaches Orto, it could be full.

That is what happened to us. We were almost panicked as we did not have luxury to wait till next morning and next boat would not come for another hour. Instead of catching Orange line from Orto, we moved to next vaporetto stop, which is Fondamente Nove. At this point, you can catch Blue line to Marco Polo with a bigger boat.

Room Tip: Make a reservation early enough!

Giacomo is a friendly and extremely helpful owner/operator. Even helped us find another place for our remaining night cause he was booked out. His father also helped out and upon quizzing him, gave us almost more local historical information than we could handle! 10 minute walk from everywhere, and very quiet. Great wine bars and food very close by (2 minutes walk). Couldn't recommend it more.

We, (me and 2 kids) stayed 5 days in September 2011. Ai mori was the highlight of a month in Italy. Close enough to the action so as not to waste a lot of time getting to and from accommodation but secluded enough that it was peaceful when we needed to just relax and recharge. Only quibble was the advertised (when I booked) washing machine was not connected.

Giacomo, the owner, makes this accommodation. He is extremely friendly and helpful, while welcoming you into his home. This is a well located home, easy walking distance from the train station, and we had the benefit of Giacomo meeting us there to guide us to the house, which made this very easy (may have been a bit more difficult to find without guidance). We felt at home here, and spent two days wandering the vast streets of Venice, getting lost, finding the pedestrian 'highlway' again, eating, drinking, and enjoying the uniqueness of Venice. This is the only B&B we stayed in while visiting Europe, and while the kids were a bit confused about sharing a house with the owner, it wasn't an issue for us at all. Really enjoyed our stay, would definitely recommend as a place to stay. Just be aware that this is a work in progress, and therefore there are parts of the accommodation that are being upgraded for future guests, however this did not interrupt our enjoyment at all.

Two girlfriends and I stayed here in April 2012 and it was fantastic. It's very easy to get to and in a great location. It's close to the stop of the water bus we took from the airport and within walking distance of everything to see in Venice. Giacomo, the owner, was very helpful and friendly. He gave us a little tour of Venice and helped us find good restaurants in the area to eat in. He also fed us wonderful breakfasts that his mom baked, delicious. The house is very clean and comfortable and I would definitely stay here again!

Two girl friends and I stayed here in April of 2012. It was wonderful. Within walking distance to everything, without being overly loud with traffic and crowds. I was a little nervous about finding the place at first, but we found it very easily after getting off the shuttle from the airport. Giacomo was VERY helpful, even giving us a short tour of Venice to get ourselves acclimated to our new surroundings. Our room had big windows that let us overlook a small plaza and bridge and was very enchanting. Our breakfasts were delicious with virtually no leftovers. We stuffed ourselves on homemade cakes, fruit, and espresso. Our host was there to meet us when we arrived, offered us refreshments from our trip and was very friendly without being overly friendly. We would definitely stay there again on a return trip.
