We decided to stay at B&B for carnival instead of normal hotel as we were seeking wider freedom and choice than hotel in a shorter stay of 2 nights/3 days.
Making arrangement with the owner Giacomo prior to stay was pleasant. He gave us lots of tips what to expect and do. Reaching to B&B from airport was also very easy. A few minutes walk from a boat stop and easy to find the building.
As we arrived, his father was welcoming us and showing the house. He could speak only Italian but trying to explain what we can do and tell some stories about Venetian history! As it was the first time for us to be there, we misunderstood him as Giacomo.
The B&B is located in a residential area and we could feel how Venetians live there. Our room was facing a small canal and we could see how tide comes and goes. It was almost full moon when we stayed there that some parts of pedestrians were filled with water. As Giacomo's father ensured, the water was gone by next morning.
If one does not mind walk bit, this is an ideal base. St Marco is 20-25 min, Rialto is 15-20 min and Santa Lucia is about 20 min.
Giacomo offered lovely atmosphere and good time to chat as well. Very easy going atmosphere made us feel like our own place. We were lucky to be only guests then so we did not need to fight over bathroom.
Some Tips here:
Whoever goes back to the airport using Alilaguna boat need to be careful since the boat serving the line is smaller than other lines. The nearby stop Orto is the first one from Marco Polo but the last one from Venice so by the time a boat reaches Orto, it could be full.
That is what happened to us. We were almost panicked as we did not have luxury to wait till next morning and next boat would not come for another hour. Instead of catching Orange line from Orto, we moved to next vaporetto stop, which is Fondamente Nove. At this point, you can catch Blue line to Marco Polo with a bigger boat.
