“We loved it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

Long week end in Venice and we stayed at Palazzo Giovanelli. We had the suite and it was really fantastic: tall roof, ancient doors and floors, a real huge Murano chandellier in the living room and opening the windows right on Canal Grande and stay at the balcony looking at boats and gondolas floating along was an amazing experience. Price was correct for a suite on Canal Grande, but value for money was really good! Hotel in its complex is very comfortable and its green court is lovely. You are wall to wall to Ca Pesaro (Museum of Modern Art) and all the area is very nice and quiet. In 15 minutes walking you're at Rialto Bridge and in 30 in San Marco Square. Hope you could have opportunity to try that Hotel and enkoy it like we did.

Staying at Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli is a bit like staying in a museum. From the moment you arrive, you're treated like a VIP, and everything about the hotel matches with that. I stongly suggest arriving by water taxi, it's not cheap but it is worth the experience. The lobby is beautiful. We arrived by train from Paris before check-in time, and were greated with a warm welcome and a map as well as suggestions to pass the short time before a room would be ready for us. The hotel is situated away from the more busy parts of the city in a quiet neighborhood that makes the garden and the hotel feel secluded and charming in a unique way. It's still a very short walk to Rialto and the busy area with shops and restaurants. The room... Was spectacular. The age of the building was shown in a dramatic and beautiful way that made it feel clean, fresh, and beautiful. We were truly impressed, and we will stay again at the first opportunity.

Being an hotelier myself and not being able to go away as much I would like, i expect our breaks to be special. I choose to book a junior suite at a 4star hotel which I thought had more value than getting a basic room in a 5 star one. We were not disappointed especially when we arrive to find out we got upgraded to the Mozart suite. Just loved it. Great room. Great hotel location. Next to the outdoor market. A must to see. Hotel staff were helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay.Would not look for somewhere else to stay if we go back to Venice.

Room Tip: Got spoiled with the presidential suite over looking Gran Canale.

The trip to the hotel in the beautiful private Riva water taxi is reason enough to go to Venice. I was a bit disssapointed that the room was very small and had no view. When searching for a hotel in Venice I looked for a hotel on the Grand Canal, which it is, and I expected to have a view of the water, unfortunately not. The front desk staff was lovely on our arrival and we did not spend much time in the room. Hotel is located at a vaperetto water taxi stop so easy we had access to everywhere. Walking behind the hotel were many small excellent restaurants and pizzarias, art shops and a bakery I will never forget. The front desk man Davide really helped us when we discovered that we left our phone charger in previous hotel, he charged both phone and ipad for us when we went to dinner. One rather odd bit, on our first night we went to the lobby bar for a drink before dinner and my husband orderd a vodka, there was only a bit left in the bottle and it was not replaced while we were for 2 more nights although we asked. I know it's Italy and nobody runs out of wine but Vodka? Not like we were asking for anything special. All in all a very good stay.

Room Tip: Ak for a room with a water view.

I have awarded the Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli a 3 star rating. This is not to say it is average, more a reflection of the fact that it does some things really well but also scores poorly in other areas *ahem* staff *cough*.

My wife and I had a 4 night stay in the hotel whilst honeymooning in Italy. Venice hotels are expensive even by Italian standards and we selected this hotel as it seemed the best option with our €200 per night budget.

The reason for this relative affordability appears to be the lack of proximity to the popular Rialto bridge/ St Mark Square tourist hotspots. There are 2 options for people wishing to head to these areas. Firstly the hotel is located right on the Grand Canal and the San Stae waterbus stop is handily located within metres of the hotel. Tourists can purchase a 72 hour pass for approx. €35 and enjoy a 5/10 minute boat trip to ‘town’. Alternatively it is possible to walk to the Rialto in roughly 20 minutes although keen map reading skills are definitely a must!

The hotel is a very attractive and typically Venetian style hotel which would most likely be labelled as ‘Boutique’ in England. Reception areas have a touch of class and more than justify the official 4 star rating. Our room was in the attic and whilst it was on the small side, it is hard to quibble when you have knowingly booked a standard room. So I’ll refrain from doing so.

Where the hotel let’s itself down spectacularly is in its HR policy. The main reception is attractive enough, however when approaching to deal with staff you feel as though you have interrupted a team of chartered accounts who are pre-occupied with a particularly tricky bank reconciliation.

If you were being kind you could describe the staff as ‘professional’ but to my mind the lack of any sort of warmth or hospitality was a real dampener. The bar prices were also very expensive which I suspect was may be a deliberate ploy to discourage any drinking for fear that you disturb the peace.

If you are a septuagenarian looking for a quiet retreat during your visit to Venice or perhaps if you are recovering from a recent ear operation then these would be your ideal lodgings.
For those with a more sociable disposition you may find the formal atmosphere a little over bearing.

Hotel Palazzo was a perfect spot for our stay in Venice. Located strategically near train station and ware bus stop. Also great access to all major sites in Venice. Our room was charming and functional. The view was to die for! Bar is nice. Breakfast was adequate. I would definitely stay here again. Front desk receptionist, Fredrica, was charming and very helpful! It was so "waterfront" we felt like we were sleeping on a gondola! Ciao!

Room Tip: Get a corner!

We stayed at the Palazzo Giovanelli in July this year, as part of a surprise wedding anniversary trip with my wife.

The hotel was fabulous, with clean and well appointed rooms. Staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is at the centre of a thriving area with shops and very reasonable restaurants only a short walk from the hotel. The hotel is also adjacent to the San Stae water taxi stop, so trips around the city and too/from the airport were made so much easier.

We strongly recommend this hotel and plan to stay there again in the future.

Room Tip: The hotel is adjacent to the San Stae water taxi stop, so trips around the city and too/from the air...
