Good for: Local cuisine
Dining options: Late Night, Breakfast, Reservations
Neighborhood: San Marco
Description: Founded in 1936 in the heart of Venice, in the Calle Cavalli street, very close to the Rialto bridge and the Rossini cinema, our wine bar offers its customers a cosy and peaceful atmosphere, with a familiar touch given by the wooden decorations which are the same that characterized the ancient "bacari", the places where people stopped to have a "cicheto" (small portion of typical food) and an "ombra de vin" (glass of wine).

“Tasty food, not crowded by tourists”
Reviewed June 22, 2014 via mobile

We've asked locals to suggest good restaurant close to our apartment and got this one suggested.

Visited it two times, had a few dishes. Both times food was very testy and service fast and friendly.
They speak decent English.

House vine was also very nice.

Thank Igor R

We went past on our contiki tour, and found it. Loverly little dishes! Quirky and cute. The pasta was so nice and very friendly service!

“Excellent quiet dinner”
Reviewed May 22, 2014 via mobile

Had a great meal here. Food was excellent, generous and well priced. I had spaghetti with clams which was great. We also had speck with vegetable pasta, also great. With spectacular tiramisu for desert.
The house red wine was also tasty and cheap.
It was nice to sit on a quiet street to get away from the crowds.
The waiter was friendly and helpful but knew when to give us our quiet time.
The experience deserved 4.5/5 really

“Wine and bites with locals”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

Rarely have I been anywhere in Venice that isn't frequented by tourists, even in the off-season. Perhaps al Volto is a bit off the map for tourists, but it shouldn't be. An old enoteca with some great choices; I was intimidated a bit at first but the bartender put me at ease and made good recommendations. The only reason not 5 stars is because I came at lunch and it seemed the food selection was fairly limited compared to some other enotecas and the risotto was warmed in a microwave, but i filled myself on a variety of crusty bread with salmon, baccala, and olive, plus some baby octopus for tradition.

“A charming bar with a great wine list and yummy small plates”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

This is a characterful wine bar with good food, good wine and good staff. We tried several wines on the recommendation of the owner and they were all good, as was the gorgonzola and anchovies open sandwich thoroughly recommended.
