Neighborhood: San Marco
Description: Founded in 1936 in the heart of Venice, in the Calle Cavalli street, very close to the Rialto bridge and the Rossini cinema, our wine bar offers its customers a cosy and peaceful atmosphere, with a familiar touch given by the wooden decorations which are the same that characterized the ancient "bacari", the places where people stopped to have a "cicheto" (small portion of typical food) and an "ombra de vin" (glass of wine).

We went to this restaurant as recommended by Lonely Planet and at first liked the atmosphere. As someone else had commented, the waiter was totally ignorant. He forgot us for a long period, we never saw the desert menu and when we tried to pay, we succeeded at the third attempt by paying the man behind the counter. This might be a nice place for locals, but as a tourist I would urge you to avoid the place!

We were here on the recommendation of a friend. We shared a plate of various cicchetti and that was good - nothing amazing. Two of us had the cod trio and that was ok. The best was my husband's spaghetti with clam/pesto sauce - so good. The portions are really big so you can easily share. We were a party of 7 and put in the back room so service for slow and a second round of drinks were not offered.

Terrible food in terms of quality and freshness. Bar food on display wasnt fresh at all and specifically the prawns was terrible beyond belief (not fresh and probably were cooked few days ago)

We stopped by this place last evening after reading the reviews. The man behind the bar gave us a nice greeting and we were ushered into the back room (outside was full). Didn't see a waiter for quite some time. when he finally came, he was completely ignorant of the wines available on the chalk board up front (which weren't in the regular menu). We got a small tapas plate of over-cooked salmon spirals and stuffed squid, both of which were blah. We shared the trio of codfish, which another reviewer raved about, and a plate of the gnocchi. Neither gave us much pleasure. The gnocchi was overcooked and its topping was barely visible (artichokes and langoustines). The trio of fish with polenta was uninspiring. One tasted like cat food smells. Blech! All this with three glasses of wine and a bottle of water cost €50. I would have spent twice that for a better meal.
