Good for: Local cuisine
Dining options: Late Night, Breakfast, Reservations
Neighborhood: San Marco
Description: Founded in 1936 in the heart of Venice, in the Calle Cavalli street, very close to the Rialto bridge and the Rossini cinema, our wine bar offers its customers a cosy and peaceful atmosphere, with a familiar touch given by the wooden decorations which are the same that characterized the ancient "bacari", the places where people stopped to have a "cicheto" (small portion of typical food) and an "ombra de vin" (glass of wine).

Very friendly people, very good food and cicchetti. Ideal for aperitivo, there is not too many tourists.

Terrible food in terms of quality and freshness. Bar food on display wasnt fresh at all and specifically the prawns was terrible beyond belief (not fresh and probably were cooked few days ago)

We stopped by this place last evening after reading the reviews. The man behind the bar gave us a nice greeting and we were ushered into the back room (outside was full). Didn't see a waiter for quite some time. when he finally came, he was completely ignorant of the wines available on the chalk board up front (which weren't in the regular menu). We got a small tapas plate of over-cooked salmon spirals and stuffed squid, both of which were blah. We shared the trio of codfish, which another reviewer raved about, and a plate of the gnocchi. Neither gave us much pleasure. The gnocchi was overcooked and its topping was barely visible (artichokes and langoustines). The trio of fish with polenta was uninspiring. One tasted like cat food smells. Blech! All this with three glasses of wine and a bottle of water cost €50. I would have spent twice that for a better meal.

Stopped for a glass of wine and some small plates. Had several small sandwiches, octopus salad, and a glass of wine. Food was delicious, wine selection was good and priced very reasonably for Venice. Staff was friendly as well. We will be back tomorrow.

It's a small, authentic-feeling restaurant where the decor is dated (think panelling on the walls and wine labels all over the ceiling), but the food is excellent and the charm is there. I highly recommend the cod three ways and the tiramisu.
