“overpriced and overrated”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

I would not recommend this restaurant. It looks welcoming due to its quite interesting decor, but the quality of food is not great and they charge too much for what you get.
First of all, there's a 3.50€ cover charge per person. The tables are small and the staff too casual without any training. Our pasta starters were disappointing and quite tasteless. I never use dry pasta myself when cooking and I don't expect it to be served to me in an Italian restaurant at a price it didn't derserve. Each starter cost 15€ The main courses were about the same price. With a bottle of wine and a bottle of water, our bill came to 83€ for a meal neither of us enjoyed.

“Bad service and expensive, poor food. Go elsewhere!”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

Came to Antico Dolo for dinner last night on the recommendation of our hotel, but we really feel cheated with the whole experience. One would think that being located next to one of the world's great food markets they would have no problem with the quality of the ingredients. Sadly that's not the case.

It's not the tiny tables and cramped space that's the problem, it's the total lack of customer care, together with indifferent food, whilst charging top prices, that's the problem. We ordered a bottle of wine, the mixed seafood platter (26 euros), followed by a pasta dish and then a fish course each. The seafood platter was disappointing and did not represent good value, even at Venice prices. But things got worse. The pasta course did not arrive, but the fish course did. When it was pointed out that the pasta should follow the anti-pasta, there was a shrugging of shoulders by the young waitress, as she stood there with the fish course. We took the fish to find both the (wafer thin) swordfish and tiny portion of bass were overcooked. dry and tasteless. The vegetables that were supposed to accompany the fish consisted of three cold slices of aubergine and some salad leaves. We asked for the bill and it included a 3 euro charge for mineral water, which we did not have. Total price minus the water, 110 euros. Nothing less than a rip-off, for the worst meal I have ever had in Italy, and there have been few. There was no apology when we complained during or after the meal. There are many better options, even in Venice.

“Our best dinner in Venice”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

We just came back to our hotel from having dinner at Ostaria Antico Dolo. We were not sure if the food would be good or not. We got to the restaurant at 7 pm. and we were the only one there. By the time we finished, the place was packed. I had spaghetti with seafood sauce and my husband had pasta with clam sauce. They both were delicious. Too bad we will be leaving Venice tomorrow or we would go back again for another dinner.

Had drinks and food twice last week. Service, price, charm all excellent. Homemade gnocchi and tuna were outstanding.

“What a find!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

This was recommended to us by our concierge and we were very happy with it. It is a small restaurant with a cozy feel. The food is incredibly good and we didn't feel like we were being robbed. The service was great, very friendly and very helpful. I would make this a regular stop every time I'm in Venice.
