My wife and I were visiting Venice for a few days after the conclusion of our cruise and we decided to grab lunch at the Birreria Forst after reading about it in Rick Steves' Venice Book. It is down one of Venice's side streets and it can be difficult to locate if you don't follow a map however, the food is very good and the staff were friendly. The restaurant is rather small with limited seating so you may find yourself taking your food to go so you can find somewhere to sit and eat your meal. (If you are not in a rush, the clientele come and go rather quickly so you will eventually find a seat.) The food is largely sandwiches with a couple of salad options and it is very busy at lunch time as the vaporetto and gondola workers (along with many others working in the area) all eat here as well. Unlike most restaurants, this is not a place where you will sit for over an hour and receive slow/measured service. You order your food from a counter and the staff are very prompt in getting you your food and moving on to the next customer. If you are in the mood for a quick, freshly prepared lunch with friendly service, this is the place for you. I highly recommend it.
