My wife and I were visiting Venice for a few days after the conclusion of our cruise and we decided to grab lunch at the Birreria Forst after reading about it in Rick Steves' Venice Book. It is down one of Venice's side streets and it can be difficult to locate if you don't follow a map however, the food is very good and the staff were friendly. The restaurant is rather small with limited seating so you may find yourself taking your food to go so you can find somewhere to sit and eat your meal. (If you are not in a rush, the clientele come and go rather quickly so you will eventually find a seat.) The food is largely sandwiches with a couple of salad options and it is very busy at lunch time as the vaporetto and gondola workers (along with many others working in the area) all eat here as well. Unlike most restaurants, this is not a place where you will sit for over an hour and receive slow/measured service. You order your food from a counter and the staff are very prompt in getting you your food and moving on to the next customer. If you are in the mood for a quick, freshly prepared lunch with friendly service, this is the place for you. I highly recommend it.

we tried this sandwich bar in one of the trendy little alleyways making our way to St Marks Square - it is frequented by locals and we were made very welcome. The sandwiches were simple but packed with filling, they also made crostini and salad, good range of drinks and very interesting photos on the wall. Loved it!

We had lunch here based on Rick Steves' recommendation and we were very pleased. They had a wide variety of fresh prepared sandwiches, beer on tap and seating available inside without a cover. We'll definitely be back.

Very yummy sandwich shop near St. Mark's. Simple, delicious, unpretentious good food. An excellent way to get a great lunch and escape the tourist traps that are very overpriced. You can order one of their pre-made sandwiches for 3 euros or create your own! They also have healthy options and a delicious rye bread. The man creating the sandwiches was very nice and helpful when I asked to create my own, fresh sandwich (tuna, tomato, rye bread, and cheese). Would definitely return here for lunch!

Close to St. Mark's Square, this casual little snack bar is a charmer! Perfect for a light lunch (try the Mortadella sandwich) or a coffee, you'll sit with locals and Gondaliers on bench seating. No service charge adds to the atmosphere. A perfect respite on a hot summer day - you'll feel like you found a hidden gem.
