I stayed here for 2 weeks in May while I was in Venice on my own. It is a lovely, quiet monastery in the beautiful Dorsoduro area-close enough to the top sights but in an area where you can see Venetians rather than just tourists: "the real Venice" as the gondolier told me. It is on the Rio delle Eremite, a peaceful canal often photographed for the reflections of the buildings in the water. The Campa San Barnaba is a short walk away and that is where I had my morning capucchino and pastry at the Caffe ai Artisti.

I had two different rooms for each of my weeks and I was really happy with both. The first room was on the second floor with two windows and a balcony looking over the cloister; the second room was on the main floor overlooking the courtyard. They were simple but sunny and clean and the washroom was clean with a good shower and bidet.

There is a kitchen near the reception for preparing simple meals you can have there or take to the courtyard to enjoy the fragrant honeysuckle and petunias. There is an internet room with one hour of free access and inexpensive rates after that. The receptionists and the nuns were helpful and friendly. There is a curfew of midnight. I ended up paying 65 Euros per night, a bargain in pricey Venice.

I would highly recommend the Istituto Canossiano and would gladly stay there again!

I don't know what the picture is of mountains that appeared on this site. There are buildings and canals all around were I stayed. For Venice this is a reasonable priced, clean and quiet place. Information can be found on the internet under Canossian Institute [ --XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-- ]. The rooms were a really nice size, with private showers. They accomodate in singles, doubles and a triple. There is a kitchen with a TV. You can only boil water for tea or coffee. There is a grocery store around the corner on the Zattere and because it is in the middle of the penninsula you can either catch the Accademia boat or the boat to the train station on the other side. They accomodate both men and women and you can make arrangements to stay out later than midnight. A private room cost 68E per night, but no breakfast. They have a quiet courtyard that you can use and machines that dispense beverages and pastry.
