“Just behind the academia, delicious Italian tapas with wine...”
Reviewed October 31, 2012 via mobile

Not à restaurant per se, more like à wine bar really where you can eat great ciccheti for 1€ each, with meat, cheese or fish, we tasted more than 12 of them and they ranged from real good to oh-my-god awesome. Wine is nice too, you can purchase bottles if you want to bring back a souvenir, they seem to have hundreds if them, from a few euros to à few hundred euros. You can eat inside or just outside, but eating while sitting on tjs bridge is frowned upon. You can order a sandwich if you prefer, I watched, amazed, the grandma behind the counter prépare several of them, slicing the prosciutto and cheese herself with the skill and speed of someone who has done that all her life... Great place, very cheap indeed for Venice. Btw no toilets.

“Awesome cicchetti and wine choices!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

Even on a stormy late October evening we enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of this family-run place close by Academmia! Filled with Venetians so get there early around six in the evening. Standup only, graze and sample their great wine list. This is essentially an Enoteca and they sell wines by the bottle.

“Cicheti and vino”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Authentic place close to Academia Museum on a beautiful canal in front of the last gondola restoration facility in Venice. A very cute bar with cicheti (small venetian appetizers) for 1 E per piece. And fantastic selection of wines. Mostly locals coming here. Favorite place of gondoliers. Great experience. Grab a plate with cicheti and sit on stone boardwalk on a canal. Very delish! Feel the real spirit of Venetian life. A glass of wine makes it even better:)

“The special place in Venice”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

I have to say that this little place is our favourite in the whole of Venice, and has remained so for our past three visits over the last six years. It is not surprising that the reviews are almost universally fond of this wine bar. It feels very much a local's special place, and for us it symbolises one of the most enticing aspects of travelling -- that unique find that is unlike anything you encounter at home. The Cantinone is rich in atmosphere, the prices are ridiculously cheap compared to those paid in more central areas, it doesn't feel the least bit touristy, and the prosecco and selection of cicchetti are simply devine. Enjoy, but don't tell too many people about it!

“great cicchetti”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

A perfect little place for wine and cicchetti. Always packed with Venetians and a few tourists, too. Great fun--and very cheap.
