We were pleasantly surprised with our dinner here; yes, it's in a touristy spot, and the laminated multi-lingual menus didn't appeal to us. But it was our last night in Venice, and we were tired of being gouged by the so-called high-end, but mediocre restaurants, so we dashed into this place with our kids at the end of a long day. Simple dishes, but hearty, we had a nice conversation with our waiter who was one of the former owners, but it was recently sold to another local family, so he was helping with the transition. Great pasta & pizza meal, reasonably priced [for Venice!] and it was a short walk from our hotel & St. Mark's. Hit the spot for our family, but don't expect anything fancy.

It was late, raining, and cold and I was hungry. Normally I would avoid a place that was in the middle of a tourist area, was open all day long, and had a laminated menu, but desperate times called for desperate measures. The cranky monster was going to attack if I didn't eat and Al Teatrol Goldoni fit the bill.

This place is cheesy, with pictures of who I assume are local stars. The tasteless decorating style included one picture of two women bearing themselves. There is lots of neon to light up the tacky decor. I'm not sure if the cover was supposed to include bread, but we paid a cover and the usual bread bowl was never presented.

We ordered fried calamari and a pizza and set our expectations really low. We were pleasantly surprised. Al Teatro Goldoni won't be winning any culinary awards anytime soon, but the calamari was cooked well, not rubbery, and the pizza was decent. If you're looking for fine dining, look elsewhere. If you are looking to fill your belly and not empty your pocketbook or find yourself freezing in the rain at 11pm with limited dinner options, go in and order a pizza.

It's a trap. You can have a menu in a logical price but the steak smelled like fish, the drinks are not included, neither the coffee or sweet, so you turned out to pay as much as you could pay in a decent restaurant. Also, the waiter stood over us and almost snatched our dishes just when we ate the last bite as if eager to throw us out. It is very tourist ic avoid it. BE CAREFUL : Don't try to eat cheap in Venice because you are going to stay hungry!

Al Teatro Goldoni is situated in the down town of Venice, 5 minutes from San Marco Square, near the Teatro Communale Carlo Goldoni. The food is Ventian local cuisine and is excellent in terms of both quality and value for money. The staff were so very welcoming, friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed this restaurant so much that we ate there twice in a three night stay in Venice. When we returned for the second time the waiter immediately remembered us and even remembered our individual preferences regarding our aperitifs and both times we were offered complimentary drinks.
