“An Excellent Find!”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ca' Barba. It is attractive and well appointed and the location is wonderful. Just around the corner from a lively morning fish market and delightful neighbourhood bars and restaurants. The Rialto bridge is just blocks away as is the water bus and Traghetti. Alessandro, our host was, was so helpful. He not only suggested an affordable garage for us to park our rental car, he also came up with many day trips for us with excellent directions and bus routes and he also provided us with books about Venice and it's history.

Room Tip: Take a room on the upper floor. We could hear the guests above us once in a while. Not a big deal, t...

We stayed at Ca' Barba for 3 nights in September 2013 and continue to talk about the many fond memories we had there.....and to be honest, it was all thanks to the host, Alessandro! We booked with him after reading the many great reviews on Tripadvisor, and I can tell you they weren't wrong! Alessendro's love and passion for Venice is contagious and his gracious and humble manor makes you feel truely welcome and at home.
Alessandro was so helpful and collected us from the vaporetto stop which is a 1-2minute walk from the B&B and made getting every where really easy!! I think it would have been hard to find if he hadn't collected us as it is down a narrow alley way with no signage. However behind the unassuming door you are welcomed into his beautiful B&B. He provided us with 2 of his favourite books about Venice and then kindly sat with us to talk about where would be the best spots to go that day. He then continued to do this each day at breakfast time. Each of his suggestions were spot on!! I know that our views of Venice would have been quite different if we remained within the typical and very busy touristy spots. Trust Alessandro and as he would say "throw away the map and be a smart tourist".
Alessandro has an eye for interior design and a gift of hospitality. He has put the B&B together beautifully and with only 4 rooms and a shared kitchen/dining area, it feels very homely. The room was very comfortable and clean. Large, comfortable bed and HUGE jacuzzi bath. There was also access to complimentary soft drinks, bottled water, milk and fruit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ca' Barba and thank Alessandro for his warm and generous spirit. My parents in law have even booked for next year due to our great experience.
Believe it or not, my rave review is still not doing it justice!!

We stayed in Alessandro's B&B for 2 nights and highly recommend it. The rooms was clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities of a full service hotel. Our rooms were even cleaned! The location was great. Away from the crowds and madness but close enough that you can still walk to all the sights. The best part was that it was walking distance to many great "off the beaten path" restaurants like Dos Spados. Alessandro took the time to explain the city and how to get the most out of it. He gave us the best hand-drawn maps which we plan to keep for future visits. Finally, he makes the best espressos and cappuccinos for breakfast.

My husband, Jon and I, stayed at Alessandro's Ca' Barba for 3 nights in September. Alessandro met us at the valporetta stop near the Rialto bridge and his B&B. The room we stayed in was beautiful and very comfortable. He gave us much good advice about places to go, and even drew an incredible map (with 4 bridges, 2 palazzo crossings, and right and left turns at bakeries or gelato shops) to get to La Zucca, a wonderful restaurant. The breakfast was outstanding -- fresh croissants, yogurt, cappuccino, etc., etc. We loved Venice and would recommend Ca' Barba to anyone who wants a great location, wonderful host, and a place to relax after enjoying a day or night exploring this fantastic city.

Okay, here are the things we like:
1) Away from the crowds
2) Comfortable room and ensuite facilities
3) A gracious and informative host who knows when to help and when to leave guests alone
4) Proximity to beautiful sights and great restaurants
5) Healthy breakfast choices

Alessandro and Ca' Barba scored perfect on all accounts. We were even able to follow our host's most interesting piece of advice about Venice, "Get lost!" We did and loved it. The restaurants Alessandro recommended were outstanding and, thanks to his directions, we did NOT get lost on the way to each scrumptious dinner!

The location of Ca' Barba, near the Rialto Market, gave us the feeling of "living" in Venice. We also appreciated the absence of cars and bikes and being able to walk safely. When not walking, we took the vaporetto everywhere! We can't wait to return!!

Alessandro was the perfect host ... And he serves the most outstanding breakfast array ever! We also got to share our breakfast time with other guests and hear their experiences. Alessandro is passionate about you enjoying Venice his special way - without a map! Once we got our bearings we realized he was right. Ask him for the best places to eat and he will guide you to more local places with very good food and service. He is very near to the Grand Canal and once we understood what Venice is, and not what we thought it should be, we settled in for our Venetian experience. Reasonable prices, and excellent service.

Room Tip: There is heavy duty construction going on a few feet from our window, but the workers were respectfu...

We booked Ca' Barba based on the excellent reviews in TripAdvisor and were still impressed. Alessandro is a conscientious host who shares his insights and love of Venice with visitors to ensure a positive experience. He offered assistance with first day arrival/directions, meeting us at the vaporetto dock, which was quite helpful. After that, it was easy enough to find the B&B.The location is great, as all signs will direct you to Rialto. Breakfast was lovely with delicious cappucinos and fresh pastry. The breakfast room is the only common area, but we enjoyed a bottle of Moscato there one afternoon, feeling quite at home. Stay at Ca Barba and trust in Alessandro. You can't go wrong.
