“Cheap, low quality”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

1) You won't spend a lot at Hotel Marte.
2) It's very conveniently located (close to the main railway station, on the way to Piazza San Marco), in a very nice area.
These are the only good news about this accomodation.
The bedrooms are frankly scary.
The staff.. where are the staff?
Our air-cond machine was so noisy that we couldn't use it during the night.
it's a good solution only for young (and vaccinated) backpackers.

We were looking for a good value hotel close to the train station just for one night. If we had of been staying longer I would of checked out. We stayed in the sister hotel across the way. Yes the hotel is in a good location on the canal, the staff were helpful and friendly, beds were comfortable, the room was warm and breakfast was great. BUT it was really shabby which wouldn’t have been a problem if it were clean! The bathroom light didn’t work nor did any of the plug sockets. The WC and sink were located in a tiny area with the shower virtually over the loo. To get to the room you pasted dozens of derelict mini bar fridges and bed frames. The worse was we were bitten in the room/bed, probably fleas! We loved Venice and hope to return but not to this establishment.

Room Tip: Insist on staying in the main hotel.

Our hostel had some problems so they sent us here. They only had on room right under the roof, but my friend was able to get the price down from 40 to 30 EUR/night (we were there for 3 nights). It's an ok hotel. But they lock the door at 2 am and you won't be able to get the key to your room after that. Try to live without the local cups, as I really doubt they actually wash them.

This hotel has a terrible restaurant with really arrogant staff. Don't go and eat here if you are after a good meal and a memorable moment. Besides that the staff is rude the prices for the meals are not worth what you get for it.

We had a nice stay for two nights in this hotel which seems to be in fact two different hotels either side of a canal. The appearance at first is somewhat scruffy and perhaps unconventional but the service is good and the price is hard to beat. Some people seem to dislike the breakfast but I think it is great; you get a coupon to bring to a nearby cafeteria which gives you a cup of coffee (any kind you want) and a croissant - simple and nice!
This is certainly not a Best Western-clone kind of a hotel but if you want an affordable accommodation in a fantastic part of the city, Marte is a good choice!

Despite of the fact that all the hotels in central Venice are outrageously expensive, Marte hotel is reasonably priced. We paid around 110 euros for one night for a triple room including breakfast (a coffee and a croissant), The hotel is located on one of the numerous canals and near a boat bus stop, as well as not far from the bus station. The room was very basic, however it was perfectly fine for a one-night stay. It had an air conditioner which is essential in Venice and a good bathroom. We enjoyed our stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel to those traveling to Venice.

I couldn't get a room for B&B or any other hotels at Venice when I travelled to Italy & Spain in end May, most of them were fully booked. The majority of available hotels were at the beach, which was out of the way for us as we wanted to stay in mainland Venice. We had no choice but to choose this hotel instead. The only thing that is great about this hotel is its close walking proximity to the train station. When we checked in during the afternoon, the lady can speak English, so it was still alright. The room was ok, relatively clean and small. We had the room that faced the canal with a small balcony.

The elderly lady who's there at night speaks minimal English, so it was hard communicating with her. When we came back at night, the heater didn't work immediately, we had to turn it on for 20min or so waiting for it to heat up, after much difficulty explaining to the old lady. The aircon was also spoilt in the room and the old lady told us to open the windows. We were horrified that we had to sleep with the windows open as we were afraid burglars can climb in through the windows especially since our room faced the canal and even when we opened the window facing the small alley, we were extremely worried. What added on to the bad experience was when my husband woke me up in the middle of the night as he heard a woman and a man conversing outside our room, and they were turning our door knob, they were trying to open our door!

We were extremely freaked out and had expected burglars, but luckily they stoppped turning the knob after a while and they went away. We couldn't sleep the whole night and I had completely decided that we should move to a B&B down the road where they had an available room the next day. In the next morning, we asked the old lady what had happened the previous night, she told us in Italian and there was a kind lady who translated to us. The old lady said that it could be the male security guard who was apparently at the hotel at night. It was most probably a woman who had mistaken our room for her friend's.

The experience was completely freaky, and we stayed another night in benefit of the doubt. We didn't sleep well and kept very alert the whole night. It was horrible and I wouldn't recommend for anyone to stay here if you have another choice. Book a B&B in advance if possible.
