We have eaten here a number of times over the past 5 or so years (indeed, on every occasion we have visited Venice). Our experience has been that the food is uniformly good, and we have never been disappointed in the choices we have made. The menu is quite small, consisting largely of fish dishes and the staff will explain what the choices are in English if language is a problem. It offers good straightforward Italian cuisine. On a recent visit we had 2 different fish courses, both of which were well cooked, fresh and very enjoyable. Overall it seems to us to be very good value for money. The restaurant is small and tends to be always overfull, you may well end up sharing a table, and you certainly will have little space to spread yourself in. It is also quite noisy, and the table service whilst effective can be offhand and rather abrupt. If this matters to you, don't go. If you like the sort of atmosphere it provides, and if you like good food at reasonable prices, then we strongly recommend it.

Not even if it will remain the last restaurant in city would we go back there. Just because of the rudeness and impoliteness of the stuff.

We are staying nearby to Osteria ai 4 Feri and have sampled two other restaurants in this area of Dorsoduro as well as a number of restaurants throughout Venice on various trips to this magnificent city. We hadn't read anything about Osteria ai 4 Feri and I'm not sure we would have gone there if we'd read the mixed reviews. We started with ravioli with scallops and asparagus. It was a strange, unfortunate dish. A lot of gluggy green sauce with bits of asparagus and chopped up scallop meat swamping some large, commercial style ricotta ravioli. Over the top of the lot was drizzled a thin fresh pesto. The flavour of the sauce was of scallops but there was nothing delicious - or even interesting - about it. The look certainly didn't appeal at all. Next up we'd ordered calimari. This came as a whole grilled squid each, served with a small amount of shredded lettuce, a wedge of lemon and a drizzle of the same thin pesto we had on the ravioli. It was fresh and quite tender which I suppose is the most that can be asked of calimari, but again it was not an appealing dish. Too much squid with nothing to break up the texture. We put some olive oil and salt on it which, with the lemon, helped to deliver some flavour.
In terms of service, one waitress was 'fast-game-good-game' and perfunctory. The other waitress was warmer. In terms of price, along with the food we drank half a litre of house wine and a bottle of frizzante water and the bill came to 56 euro.
This was not at all a happy eating experience. We weren't sick so the food didn't do us harm but there was nothing good for the soul in it either.
The next night we headed back to Al Profeta just down the way and felt like we'd come back home. The locals obviously feel the same. Wonderful variety, good prices and every dish made to please not only the taste buds and the eyes but the heart as well.

We were recommend this place by friends who stayed in the neighbourhood. It's definitely worth seeking out - bonus is it's round the corner from the jazz club. The menu changes daily, the table crammed together and if you don't reserve you might find yourself seated on the same table as other diners.

It's well worth it, fresh seasonal food served by a jolly local team who speak a little English.

Excellent seafood first and second courses. Minimally touristy. It's on a very narrow street that you probably wouldn't pass if sightseeing. Wait staff spoke just enough English to give us the main idea of what was on the menu.
