I was so utterly disappointed! The bed was rock hard - we were actually sleeping on a box spring, not even a mattress and it was 2 twin beds pushed together, not a double/queen we requested. We had the dreaded room at the end of the dark alley - very scary at night as there is no light. Desk is unmanned. Wifi was only in the tiny lobby - don't bother!!!, though since there is free wifi to all Venice residents, whey they could not accommodate their guests is beyond me! Breakfast is ok, simple in teh tiny courtyard. Mold in the tiny shower.

Let me start by saying i have been traveling for years and have never written a review. I am doing so now to hopefully prevent anyone from having to experience this hotel. It was the absolute worst place and experience my sister and I have ever had.

To start, despite 3 emails to the owner, we were not given any directions or assistance to find the hotel. We were simply told to get off the water taxi and were then left to "find" the hotel on our own. This is not an easy thing to do in Venice and so as a result we spent over 30 minutes slugging our luggage up and down stairs and alley ways. The lack of concern for how to navigate to the hotel was appalling and in direct contrast to the apartment we stayed at pre-cruise.

Once we finally found the location we were totally underwhelmed. We were hoping the outside of the building and the neighbourhood were not going to reflect the room we had rented. We were quite wrong. The room, on the fourth floor, was selected by us since it boasted a terrace. it was actually a worn, dated, filthy dirty roof top, with 2 plastic chairs and a table that no one would ever sit on or at. The "view" was of other equally run down and poorly cared for buildings. It actually was quite ghetto like in character. We did not use the terrace since it was so disguesting and depressing.
The owner, a man, was sitting at the front desk when we arrived, along with a young women who was clearly not happy. Both with unwelcoming and rather cold in their approach. The primary interest of the owner was payment and check out time for the next day. We asked about a cup of coffee as we had been traveling for hours and we told he could perhaps get us some but we would have to stand at the front desk to drink it. Needless to say to got the hint and declined.
When our room was finally available, about 5 hours later, we opened the door and almost cried. It was totally disgusting!!!!!!! It smelled horribly and was dark, depressing and filthy. The pictures of the rooms are totally misleading. The room was so bad we opened our suitcases, took out what we absolutely needed and zipped them shut as fast as we could. As stated, I have been traveling for years and have never even thought about taking this action. The need for this action was verified as necessary as we later found 2 very used plug in insect "catchers" in the dresser drawers.
The washroom sink leaked and we had to put towels on the floor to soak up the water. The toilet seat had a large crack on it and caused pinching of the butt when used.
As we were located on the fourth floor there were many NARROW stairs to navigate our suitcases. Since we were leaving at about 5 the next morning (thank goodness) we were attempting to find an easy way to manage our suitcases in the morning. The stairs looked much more challenging than all others we had experienced and so asked we asked if we could bring our cases down later in the evening and have them securily stored overnight. The answer was no. Not a polite no but rather a harsh and dismissive no. When we asked if we could possible have some assistance to manage the stairs with our suitcases the man told us quite rudely that he was the owner not a porter.
The overall feeling of the hotel, the room and the demeanor of the owner made us quite uncomfortable. It was really a creeping feeling that resulted in us putting a chair over the door handle when we went to bed. Neither of us slept, we rose very early and left as soon and as quickly as we could.
I sincerely hope this review prevents other from having this experience in Venice.
Prior to the cruise we spent 5 glorious days and nights in the city and were totally captivated but the city and the experience.

Quaint little 10 room B & B type place located just 5 minutes walk from San Marco Square and , vaporettos. Building from the 1500's. Nice quiet neighborhood but close to everything. Room was a little dated but very clean/functional and the bathroom was newly renovated and very modern. Clean, quiet. Cute courtyard with daily European breakfast included. Very helpful front desk staff. I would definitely stay here again. Spent 6 nights here.

We arrived around 7pm and were greeted with an intercom and no face or person. Hardly welcoming. We were told to find our key on the bench which we did and then were told by intercom to go outside and walk down the alley to the door at the end. When we opened our room what a disappointment. We nearly cried. It was horrible and looked like some dorm room - it even had a double bunk down one end. The walls were all scuffed and marked from furniture rubbing against them. The curtains were only a piece of scrim on a rod - and even these fell down twice during the night. Not that they were much good as there was a bright street light right outside and the scrim did nothing to keep the room dark so we didn't get much sleep until we pulled jumpers over our heads each night to get some darkness. The bedspread was dingy, dirty and threadbare. Oh, and the tv - what a joke - it was an old portable cathrode ray one sitting on a little round table with the aerial stuck on with sticky tape. The room safe didn't work. The bathroom shower door didn't shut so we ended up with a pool of water on the floor every morning. Above the shower on the wall someone had endeavoured to stick some contact type marble style wallpaper to cover up something, who knows what, but it looked decidedly dodgy. Breakfast was ok and the room was spotless. Location was also ok. But this is a 2 star!!! Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: Don't bother - find somewhere else at all costs.

A bit of a challenge to find, fortunately I had read previous reviews that warned of a buzzer and mystery voice and not to expect any service. All true. Our keys were on the front counter. My husband and I had a lovely room on the 2nd floor, our girls had the room on the 1st floor which was not as nice as ours.. A minimal breakfast was served by a lovely lady in the tiny courtyard. The coffee was delicious. The only time we met the mysterious voice was when he wanted to make copies of of passports and collect a tax. Said he couldn't take a credit card, yet on the front door it showed the one I had. The location was fantastic once you got used to the maze like streets. I would not call Ca'Valeri a Hotel nor a bed & breakfast. Its a room in a house.

Unfortunately we had already left on holiday before the previous comments were posted. Room 30 is exactly as described. When we eventually found the place there was the buzzer and the disemdodied voice telling us to wait, pleasant lady came but she didn't speak one word of English. Air conditioning, that we couldn't work, spewing black bits all over the floor. Very dark, no bedside tables so have to get out of bed to turn wall lights off. We found blinds on the outside of the window one hour before we left. Very noisy neighbours literally feet away at the back, so close you could have held hands. We found safe in back of storage cupboard. Bed mattress terrible, felt every spring. Bathroom ok. Such a pity for our last night in this wonderful city.
