“If I could give them 10 stars I would !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

I have used Context all over Europe. I have found them to be most informative, in depth, and engaging group I have ever used. To say they are a tour company in not accurate. They are there to educate you not drag you around the sites. I promise you you will not be sorry and will walk away with a better understanding and knowledge about the subject you choose to learn about. The guides are extremely well educated, speak perfect English and are prompt. Our guide in Venice had a PhD from Stanford ! Expensive but worth every penny.

“Lovely (and cool) boat ride through Venice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We had a lovely early evening boat tour of Venice with Louisa who was wonderful with our 8 year old step son. The boat was a classic wooden limo which we loved and Louisa and the driver were very flexible and accommodating. Great service overall from Context.

“Completely satisfying walking tour of Canareggio”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

We took a private 3 hour walking tour through this neighborhood with Louisa Warman of Context Tours. The experience was totally satisfying. As a repeat visitor to Venice we were looking for tours which would take us through the less visited neighborhoods of Venice, rather than the standard tourist attractions and we were not disappointed. Louisa is personable, knowledgeable and flexible to meet our specific interests. If you are interested in art, she is also an art historian.
Highly recommended. Also check out the other tours which Context Tours offers on their website

“Great tours: Vasari corridor, Vatican evening visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We took 2 tours with Context: Vasari Corridor in Florence and evening Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel in Rome. We were joined by 2-3 others on each tour and really valued the small group experience. Both guides were knowledgable and had completed graduate academic work related to the historical information they were describing. The guides were attentive to our needs and personalized the information.
We debated whether or not to do the Vasari corridor tour, as it's expensive and in end I'm glad we did. It's exclusive, peaceful, and a glimpse into an under-appreciated historical treasure. This is not a substitute for the Uffizi; rather, it is in addition to a separate Uffizi tour and gives a greater knowledge of the Medici lives and their influence on Florence.
We did a Friday evening Vatican museum tour and were surprised by the crowds. Our guide did a great job guiding us through the crush of people, and pointing out the history, highlights of the extensive museum collection, vignettes of the artists and works, including the Sistine Chapel. Given the crowds, I'm especially glad we chose to do a guided tour. We did have to visit St. Peter's basilica separately and on our own and while it would have been nice to have that rolled into the Vatican tour, given how much time we spent at each site, it may be better to do the 2 visits separately. (Definitely pay for the walk (or elevator ride) up to the cupola when you visit St. Peter's--very much worth it.)

“Knowledgable guides”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

Context Travel in Venice was organized, prompt, helpful, and that's just the booking experience! The guides were fantastic. We liked Matteo so much we booked another tour for the next day with him. He was an archaeologist by training so his knowledge of Venice was extensive and he easily adapted his tour to suit our interests. We took the Daily Life in Renaissance Venice through the San Polo area which were unfamiliar with and Matteo gave us a glimpse into real daily life in Venice that we would never have had otherwise. Tamara was our guide for the Rialto Market Tour and we loved her. She was fun, funny, knowledgable and seemed to know just about everyone. It was like having a friend taking us for a private tour rather than a guide. We loved it.

I suggest booking a private tour if possible so you can see what you want and not get bogged down by others with different agendas or abilities. We are both fit and wanted to move along and see as much as possible. Both our guides were fine with this style.

Both our Context guides spoke very good English which you think would be a requirement for a guide, but our experience later in Bologna proved this was not necessarily the case. Our guide there (not with Context) was useless.
