“Disgusting food, unfriendly service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2011

We had a four course menu. Is was not only "not good" but really disgusting. The bruschetta was two pieces of dry white bread with something like old tomato sauce on it. I couldn't it that. Pasta was slobbery. Side salad was with a spoonfool of sour pickles on top. Not worth to speak about the rest... Top of all the service was so unfriendly... The terrace with view on Rialto Bridge is nice. But while eating you don't really see anything. What a pity that you can't give negative stars.

So go two street away from Canale Grande and you will find much better restaurants with better food and better service.

“Terrible Tourist-Trap”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2011

Defrosted, deep-fried, re-heated en-mass cooking for passing tourists wanting somewhere to crash next to the Rialto Bridge. Just don't. Pay a little more, and you'll see the difference in somewhere nicer.

I'd personally have rather bought a couple of slices of pizza and sat on the bridge than eat here, as another reviewer said.

“Waste of Money - Terrible Food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2010

On the 2 August 2010 we chose to eat at Ristorante Omnibus while walking along the main canal in Venice. The menu sounded reasonable and the restaurant looked busy and had a nice outdoor area. That is where the pleasantries ended. I should have been more alert that this was a tourist trap as the set menu was titled “Tourist Menu” and included three courses for €18.50 per person excluding drinks.

I had the spaghetti in chilli sauce starter, fresh fish fillets for main and crème brulee for desert. The starter was fine but nothing spectacular. The fresh fish fillets were nothing more than three thin, dry pieces of flake heavily coated in batter and deep fried and the crème brulee tasted terrible and had an over powering taste of brandy through it.

After a bottle of cheap house wine the total price for three people was €70.00. I would have enjoyed three slices of fresh pizza and a bottle of wine sitting on the canal a lot more. The only thing going for Ristorante Omnibus is its location, but the fact that it is packed with people with western accents should have given it away.

We ate at Marco Polo on the next night which I will also review and had one of the best meals in Italy there.

“Very good value for the location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2010

The restaurant is right by the Grand Canal just south of the Rialto Bridge. The waiters were pleasant and attantive. We had the tourist menu 18 euro each without drinks. I had a big bowl of Veg Soup which was piping hot-excellent on a coolish evening, followed by fish fillets with vegetable included, last course pinaccota. The fish was little dry but tasty. My wife had Lasagne to start followed by turkey slices and chips, followed by creme caramel. This tourist menu is not exactly true Venetian food, but for this price and the beautiful location I can recommend this restaurant.

We had a meal elsewhere on another night near St.Marks and it was twice the price and dissapointing in comparison.

“Simply the worst restaurant I have been to in Italy”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2008

I have been to Italy more times than I can count. This restaurant is the worst I have ever patronized. The lasagna had very little cheese but many peas and small pieces of ham. The top layer was burnt to a crisp--it was inedible. The venetian liver was green and so tough that I sent it back. The fisherman's platter was extremely oily frozen fish. The calamari was so hard I thought it was a bone. Once again--inedible. The pizza actually had pre-frozen crust much like the frozen pizza from the supermarket and to add insult to injury--the spaghetti sauce tasted worse than the cheapest bottled sauce. The ending gelato was once again commercial and tasted like the boxed cheap ice cream in the supermarket. The melon was the only tasty part of our meal. This place should be shut down, the food is so bad it is offensive and the prices are at Rialto premium-diner for 4 plus a child came to 150+Euro's.
