“Great B&B with fantastic view”
Reviewed July 28, 2008

We stayed at the Rosa dei Venti for one night and had a short but great stay.

We took a water taxi from the airport - you can either take the quicker red line directly to Arsenale, which is a minute or two away from the B&B or take the blue line (which has more stops) and get off at the San Zaccaria stop - just under a five minute walk.

I had forgotten to let them know what time we were arriving - after ringing the buzzer and getting no response, I called them (their phone number is helpfully on the bell) and a lady came to meet us within a few minutes.

I had booked the B&B as it has the same beautiful lagoon view as the Danieli but at less than half the cost. The Rosa de Venti is only about 10 minutes walk to Saint Marks square along the lagoon, but feels in a much more 'local' area of Venice.

There are a couple of flights of stairs, but these were quite wide and therefore I would imagine easy to navigate with suitcases. We had booked a double room with a view - and it certainly delivered that with, double doors opening up onto the lagoon and a little balcony to take in the view of the locals below and a lovely view of San Giorgio Island.

The room had a double then 2 single beds, but as there were only two of us I'd have preffered only the double in the room. To be honest we stayed one night and as it's peak season the extra beds didn't really bother us too much.

The bathroom was fine. There was a shower, but it was a bit odd as it had a small semi-circle seat in it which meant there wasn't a huge amount of room in there (I dropped the soap and didn't have space to pick it up!) but the water pressure was good, the temperature great and it was really clean.

The room had air conditioning which was fantastic after a hard day pounding the pavements! There was also a small working fridge in the wardrobe and a hairdryer in the bathroom.

Breakfast was taken in the cafe downstairs from about 8am until 10am - with a good tasty choice.

Overall I would recommend La Rosa dei Venti B&B, we had a lovely stay and would go back there.

Venice was our first stop on a ten day trip to Italy with my husband and two sons (age 16 and 13). This was the perfect beginning. I highly recommend staying in this area (the Arsenale area is where the locals live, much quieter and beautiful, and still within a ten minute walk to San Marco etc.)

We flew into Marco Polo airport, took the bus right at the airport to Piazzale Roma (15 min). Then walked to the train station (S.Lucia)/Ferrovia Vaporetto stop--not far but a little confusing to find. Took the number 1 Vaporetto from the Ferrovia stop (which is right in front of the train station). Oohed and aahed our way all the way down the Grand Canal to the Arsenale stop. Called the hotel and she came to meet us at the stop--which we thought was incredibly nice.

It was a very short walk to the hotel, took a right from the stop, over a footbridge, and then about 50 meters on the left--right on the promenade overlooking the water. Up 3 flights of steps (but it really wasn't bad at all) to a very spacious room, lovely decor, a double bed and nice sitting area, and a very cool loft with 2 single beds--like a small apartment. Fireplace, tv, nice towels, hairdryer, excellent AC. Lovely, large tiled bath, with shower and jacuzzi. Everyone was delighted. We stayed in room P3, which was at the back, so no view, but we didn't miss it at all. We didn't hear a peep, and the breakfast was the best we had our whole trip--it is served down on the promenade overlooking the water, includes coffee, juice and choice of meats/cheese, cereal/yogurt, pastries, etc. We loved sitting there enjoying the view, the breeze, and watching people go to work, take their children to school, etc.

It was wonderful, and Via Garibaldi is a little further down (another 50 meters) and is a wonderful street: cafes, shops, and a lovely small park that's not on any map. Toward the end on the left is a restaurant we also liked--Trattoria da Paolo's--good, and reasonably priced, local place. Paolo sang and whistled tunes from Figaro and other greats--it was delightful. I had mussels-yum.

We loved La Rosa dei Venti. There are more reviews on the venere.com website, which is where we found it. The only complaint I heard was my son said his bed was "humid"--I guess his sheets felt a little damp or something. I couldn't tell. We will definitely stay here again! When I figure out how to post photos I will.
