When you read the menu, you wouldn't think this is an expensive restaurant. Primi piatti for 13-15 Euros, secondi for 15-20. We went in. First problem: the wine menu. It looks impressive, with many good italien wines. We picked one - it was sold out. We picked another one, not available. A third one, waiting for a new delivery - the waiter apologized. So we let him decide. Then the food came before the wine and they took the food away again, so the waiter could get the bottle first.

The pasta itself was delicious, but hardly enough to work as a appetizer. Certainly not a first course. The trick of this restaurant is to deliver microscopic portions, so you have to order a second course at least. The main course of my wife left me astonished: where do they get such small fish filets? This is a dirty trick.

After 96 Euro for one primi, one secondi, a cheese desert and wine we both left hungry.

We ate here on our last night in venice while visiting the biennale. After some truly dreadfull and some very mediocre culinary experiences in venice, this place was like a breath of fresh air. Off the more tourist beaten path, in a more remote piazzale, the service was impecable, the food extremly fresh and surprising. The menu is not extensive and mostly into fish and seafood, but if you like this area of cuisine, it's subtle and very well done.
The helpings are small, so don't go there if you are hungry and need to fill up. Also, the prices are higher than your average tourist restaurant, but well worth in my opinion. We had a shared seeafood starter, main courses, dolce, coffee and a bottle of white wine and was about 100euros for two, including the 5euro cover charge per person. d
All in all, a great experience, would reccomend if you are not particularly hungry but just want a respiro from the average turist junk they serve all around venice.

We stopped by the Boccadoro for lunch without having any reservation. We did read the positive reviews on TripAdvisor prior to our visit, but the reality exceeded all expectations.
The restaurant is located in a rather non-touristy area of Venice, in a rather quieter part of Cannareggio, a couple of steps away from the famous Palazzo Widmann. The guests are greeted by the very amicable owner, the chef Luciano Orlandi. To fully enjoy the conversation with this great guy the knowledge of French (or, of course, Italian) would be advantageous. The English menus are available too.
The service was impeccable. Nothing super fancy, but very efficient, friendly, everything was cooked and delivered within the reasonable time. The food quality, however, was simply amazing. Every ingredient was carefully selected by the chef, the degree of freshness is above any possible reproach. Our anchovy appetizer was great but the truly terrific part of the meal were the main fish courses. Without dwelling on the details, we can vouch for the extremely high quality of the food served. Even the tiny details were given lots of attention to. We would refer you to our pictures that are better than a most detailed description. The potatoes that came as a garnish were probably among the best we ever had. The dessert that we shared was awesome too. We never kept the check, and therefore don't remember the exact total, but the price level was very accommodating. We do sincerely and enthusiastically recommend Ostaria Boccadoro, a great find in the heart of Cannareggio.

My wife and I were walking around looking for a quiet place for a late lunch and came across this place.
We found out after we sat down that they are a seafood place, my wife is vegetarian, Luciano (the owner) said no problem and lead us through a 3 course meal. It was one of the best meals we have had.

Go there ! We are going back for dinner.

Ostaria Boccadoro is tucked away in the Campo Widmann, a 15 minute walk off the well worn tourist stomping grounds of San Marco. Boccadoro features hand made pastas that really convey the culinary traditions of Venice and the lagoon. We had the 3 course set menu and it was way more food than we could eat. Absolutely amazing food and very friendly and authentic cooking!
I was really glad we stumbled across this tucked away restaurant thanks to a local friend's recommendation. The pride of the chef and his staff about thier food really shines through at Boccadoro, and it is this that sets them apart from other Venetian restaurants of good rapport. If there can be one critique of Boccadoro, it would be the price but it totally makes up for the portion size! In Venice there is no such thing as a cheap, good restaurant. Boccadoro is worth it and Not To Be Missed.
