“Probably the best place for breakfast in the world! (and the lunch is good too!)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2012

I'm writing this sitting outside La Palanca enjoying a caffe latte & freshly baked brioche breakfast. The view out over the Guidecca canal towards San Marco & San Giorgio has got to be one of the best in the world. Andrea, the guy that runs it, just doesn't stop smiling & is a real pleasure to meet.
Lunch is from a freshly cooked limited menu with daily specials that always include a couple of hand made pasta dishes. It's a also a great pleasure to get away from the chaos of San Marco for a while and just...relax.
La Palanca is open in the evening until about 9pm for drinks only. A great place to stop for un'ombra (google it), a prosecco or a local Aperol Spritz after another hard day sightseeing & shopping. Or maybe for a drink before dinner while you watch the world go by.
Getting there: about 10 minutes on the number 2 vaporetto from San Zaccaria. Slightly quicker if you get the number 4.1, although that one does get very crowded.
Well worth trying, you won't regret it!

“Might be nice spot for lunch but a silly rule will lose them business”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2012

It was 11:45 on Thursday 5th April. Sunny but still early in the tourist season, There weren't many people around and all but one of the tables outside were free. Inside was the same.

It looked a nice spot to stop for a coffee and a snack lunch. But having ordered we were told we could not sit down anywhere and would have to stand at the bar to eat. The food tasted fine but even Starbucks lets you sit down.

I could see the point if there were lots of customers queuing or reservations due but there weren't.

And the fact is that people are more inclined to stop if they see a place is popular. So we eat quickly and left.

And the tables outside were still empty when we returned an hour later....

Their loss....

“Wonderful lunch, friendly service”

We decided to eat here for lunch for our first meal in Venice and it was a great experience. Anchovies were fresh and delicious. My pasta was really good too.

“OK, but not worth a special trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2012

We tried this place for lunch as we had just arrived at the Hilton Molino Stucky hotel and it is a short walk along the Giudecca waterfront. First we were frustrated that they would not let us sit down as we only wanted the sandwiches, we were supposed to stand at the bar which was full, in the end they let us sit outside which may have been OK in July but in Feb it was cold. The sandwiches were OK but nothing special, white bread with good quantity of fillings. So if you are on the island at lunchtime then give it a try but I wouldn't make a special trip from the main town.
