We were staying in the hotel upstairs- La Fenice des Artistes (which was great); and were n Venice for a long and hectic weekend of wedding celebrations. First evening, late, could they serve us a night cap- 'Of course!', and they showed is where Maria Callas preferred to sit and explained that now the management of the hotel and restaurant were different the authorities had made them close up the door between the two, to their immense regret. Next time we walk past the Maître D'hotel, NOT soliciting us for business asks us if we slept well and wished us a good day, and so it was the following morning. That evening we went for dinner. Simply impeccable.
And the small or large portion option on every dish gives you great flexibility. Feeling carnivorous it allowed me to have beef tartar while my fellow diner tucked into pudding. You should try it sometime! Like everything in Venice it's not cheap but the local wines are well priced.
Understated but wonderfully rich old interior too, a joy.
Like Venice itself it's one of those places which, when you leave, you know you'll be back!
