“Stately and serene”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

One can't help but easily imagine how this was a convent at one time. Away from the bustle of busy Venice it is a quiet area. As you get off the Vaparetto (water ferry) you walk through the adjoining park and the cobbled via. We were greeted at the desk by Marta who is a true asset to the hotel. The room was very tidy and the view out the windows is of a canal and walkways, very serene. Breakfasts were good and plentiful with a well rounded selection. The cafe staff didn't seem very friendly but we were only there for a couple days. Really enjoyed this location and would recommend a stay here.

hotel is at sant elena, just two stops away from saint marco square.
walking distance to saint marc.

totally love this place as it is less busy compared to the major areas but still within reach to the center of activities.

nearby the hotel there are grocery shops as well as some local restaurants that serves pretty good food (as compared to those touristy restaurants at saint marc or even near rialto bridge)
recommended restaurant nearby:

This hotel as you can read from other reviewers is not situated in the touristy heart of Venice. We casually enjoyed a nice walk along the lagoon esplanade from St Mark's square and it took about 30 minutes. Warning: if you stay here don't try to walk back along the back strrets through Venice because it is really easy to get lost. The hotel was clean and comfortable with good front desk and other service. We stayed in a junior suite which was comfortable and spacious for Venice. The bathroom had two separate sinks and vanities, but the shower was over the bath. The view from the big windows was of the quiet adjoining residential area. If there is one complaint to make, it would be that the air conditioning was inefficient and it was quite hot in the rooms in the afternoon and diring the night. This is a common criticism of Europe which on the whole is more competent at heating than cooling. The breakfast was at the level you would expect except there were no hot special menu items to choose from. The sweet pastries and cales were really quite good. We concluded that it was quite a good idea to not stay in the crowded areas of St Mark and the Rialto in the tourist season as they can become a crush. This hotel was only a few water bus stops from the action bur allowed us the opportunity to watch real locals walking their dogs or playing with their children in the nearby park.

We travelled with a tour group and did not get to choose our hotel, but this hotel was superb. The room was spacious and clean, with a wonderful bathroom/shower room. Out of all the hotels we stayed in on our tour, my husband says this was his favourite. It was a quick walk to the water bus, and we found that easy to use when we did a day of independent sightseeing. It was also nice to escape the crowds of tourists in this refuge!

First time in Venice so didn't know what to expect really. Even though you're still on the main island the location is so far away from central area that you miss that special feel of Venice. So after a dinner out your still at least a half hour commute back to the hotel - which can seem like an eternity if you've had a fair bit of wine! On the positive side the rooms are very spacious and modern. Breakfast was also very good. If this place was more central the price would be much higher so I guess you can't have it all.

Hotel located in lovely green environment about 300 meters from the St Elena Water-taxi stop. Although the Hotel is slightly way from the busy downtown area surrounding St Marks square, it is nice to be away from the busy crowd and yet not too far from the downtown.
Front Office is efficient and knowledgeable. They introduce us to a lovely home-style cooking restaurant with good seafood, about 400 Meters from the hotel and close to the St Elena water-taxi stop.
Good WIFI and computer available at the reception area.
Breakfast was average. Room is clean and comfortable.
As with hotels in Venice the room rate is rather pricey.

The location is great if you want to be away from the crowds, which we did as May can be hectic in the central areas.
Sadly, the gentleman on reception the day we arrived was less than helpful and despite informing him of our Best Western loyalty card which normally grants us a room upgrade, free drinks etc. none was forthcoming. It took 4 tries to get a room that had working climate control and never received the drinks etc. Only on checkout did they attempt to chastise him, which was a bit late by then. Maybe if we'd had a decent room (we did ask for a garden view on our booking form) from day one, with a more helpful member of staff, our visit would have been better, but as it is I'd be reluctant to revisit this hotel.

Room Tip: Check your room on arrival and refuse to accept a substandard room

Our romantic boutique hotel owes its secluded ambiance to the former convent in which it is housed and of which it still retains much of the original structure: the high walls and the imposing façade conceal unexpected gems such as the impressive spiral staircase and the amazing garden furnished with comfortable chaise-lounges. Venice, with its historic center and beautiful architecture, can be reached with a pleasant stroll along Riva degli Schiavoni, or in just a few minutes by waterbus. ... more   less
