“Review plus best way to get there”

First the hotel. Basically it was lovely in a great location near the opera house which was the reason for our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room (205) was large and had a great view overlooking the canal and gondolas going past. It was next door to the breakfast room but the noise was not bad enough to be a problem. The room was large and pleasantly furnished. It also had proper coat hangars. Free WiFi was appreciated especially those times when it worked. It was slightly annoying that you had to log on every time you went back to it. A petty annoyance was the mean plastic glasses quite out of place in a 3 star hotel with a well furnished room. Breakfast was just about OK although the scrambled eggs even when eaten immediately on arrival from the kitchen were cold as well as being overcooked. It may be better to stick to the hard boiled eggs which were provided.
Next the journey from the airport which can be quite a puzzle. The most expensive way is a water taxi for which we received various quotes between 200 and 340 euros return. On the other extreme is to take an ordinary bus to the vaporetto stop and then take this to St Marks where you can get a porter if necessary. However this type of transport can be crowded and it is no fun lugging your cases on and off different forms of transport. However this method is cheap. We took the middle way which was the Alilaguna boat Linea Blu, which took us to the San Marco Giardinetti stop the last one on the line. This cost 50 euros for the 2 of us return and we had no difficulty in finding a porter who took our three cases on a trolley the 5 minute walk to the hotel for 35 euros. For some reason the porter on our return, organised by the hotel, charged only 20 euros. We had therefore a comfortable journey each way at a reasonable price and I recommend this as a good method of getting to the hotel.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay here and could not fault the hotel. We were going to the opera at La Fenice and the hotel was literally just around the corner from the theatre. Our room was quiet and very spacious with a large, very stylish day bed as well as the large double. Our room and en-suite was spotlessly clean as were the rest of the public spaces in the hotel. It boasts a roof terrace with a honesty bar, this was very tiny but still a nice place to end an evening. Breakfasts were very well organised with lots of choice and we didn't experience any waiting for a table. The desk staff were exceptionally helpful, rearranging the time of our private water taxi, checking on their arrival when there was a short delay, advising on routes to the main attractions, answering our questions on working and living in Venice, advice on vaporetti routes, they could not have been more helpful. Thank you! We will certainly return to Hotel dell'Opera when we return to Venice.

Room Tip: Room 101 very spacious and easily accessed.

We stayed at the Hotel dell'Opera for 4 nights and were very impressed with the hotel. The location couldn't have been better, just a 5 minute walk to St Mark's square but in a quiet spot. Our room was on the second floor and was very light and airy. It was very clean and larger than expected for Venice. Breakfast was good and the waitress did a fantastic job at keeping everything well stocked. The breakfast room was small and on our first morning we had to wait a little while for a table but they were very apologetic and offered us a coffee on the roof terrace while we waited. On our last morning we had to check out early but were still allowed to grab a quick breakfast even though it was before the allocated time. The staff were very helpful and the hotel had a lovely, friendly vibe. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Everything about Hotel dell'Opera was superb. The staff was courteous and helpful in arranging for our needs. Our room was clean and plenty spacious for a couple (standard double). The breakfast was excellent!
While finding the hotel initially was slightly difficult, especially for first time visitors to Venice. After a couple of times venturing out and back, it quickly became easy to find. We were in easy walking distance of San Marco and other attractions.
We will definitely stay there again.

We have been to Venice with the kids for Christmas holidays and have enjoyed staying at the dell' opera hotel. The hotel is strategically located in the heart of San Marco. The rooms are large and the personnel is friendly. Breakfast is good as well, but small restaurant so you need to wait during rush hours. Overall, excellent experience. We definitely recommend dell'opera!

We stayed for 4 nights on 2/4 and we're absolutely delighted with the position of the hotel and that there was a lift rather than the usual flights of stairs. The only negative was the room on the 2nd floor which was near the kitchen and breakfast room which made for a very noisy wake up early in the morning. Rooms away from those areas but still overlooking the small canal would be the best. Very clean and very helpful staff. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Away from breakfast room and kitchen and facing canal

good hotel, remarkably spacious room, quiet, overlooking a small canal. Far enough from San Marco to be uncrowded but could walk there easily. Staff (esp Enrico) were really helpful. Breakfast was nice too, simple but good.
Hard to find when you first arrive suggest take a water taxi rather than drag your bags around while you look for it.

Room Tip: good to be over the canal but up high. You do get a bit of noise during the day from singers on the...
