“Great osteria in Venice”
Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

This osteria is hidden away from the main touristy streets and crowds. It's only a 5-10min walk from Rialto bridge, if you can find it :-) Food is excellent and the wine served too. I would suggest the Fragollino wine with the dessert.

“Great Cicchetti and wine.”
Reviewed July 10, 2013 via mobile

Great place to grab a glass of wine. The cicchetti we tried was excellent. Wish I could have tried all of them. They offer a full menu and seating, but lots of locals coming in for their ombra and standing. Cash only.

“Tiny, Authentic, Best Meal in Venice!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

This place is tiny and busy with locals. You can order at the counter or take a seat at one of the 6 tables. They have a chalk board with the freshly made food, and friendly staff to help make selections, especially if you need a little help translating. Our dishes were homemade and delicious. It was a little warm inside, but not uncomfortable. We had the linguine and tomatoes and seafood (all super fresh mussels, clams, shrimp) and pasta with beef ragu. For dessert with had warm biscottini with sweet wine for dipping. Incredibly delicious, and one of the best meals we had in Italy. I would go out of my way to return.

“Delicious food and really excellent value”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Before heading to the airport to return home, we stopped at Al Portego for some cicchetti (an Italian version of tapas) as it was recommended in one of our guidebooks, was highly recommended here on TripAdvisor and was close to our hotel. It was an excellent choice and probably the best food we had eaten in Venice. We chose a selection of ciccetti (just one or two of each)- crab leg fritters; potato and onion fritters; delicious cuttlefish in ink; small tomato and mozzarella bites; bruscetta; spinach and ricotta tart; and probably one or two other delicacies that I've forgotten; washed down with some prosecco. We had arrived at about 6pm and the food had just been prepared. As we were sitting at the table, quite a few locals came in for their ciccetti and wine or beer. The food was absolutely delicious - the cuttlefish was a real highlight.
And it was also very, very good value (the total cost for everything we had came to Eur13.50!).
They also do a dinner menu which we didn't try but looked interesting, and also well priced - but you would need to book a table in advance as the place is quite small, and most of the tables had reservations for later in the evening.
Highly recommended.

“Definetly go!”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Best meal we had in Venice. Looks like a locals bar from all the people hanging out around it, restaraunt inside. We ordered a mixed vegetarian starter from their deli counter which we requested they make up, very good. I had prawns from the menu which were huge, my boyf had steak (which the waiter went to get a dictionary to translate the cut of meat for us, outstanding service!) He said it was the best steak he'd ever had... house wine was lovely. Don't miss this restauraunt, authentic Venice fare that won't cost the earth!
